There is no need to remove X1, you can install X2 on top. Then you can always still use X1 if you need to, though I'm happily using X2 full time now.

Why do you need to remove X1? You might want to hang on to X1 until they release the first X2 patch. However I haven't seen too many people complaining about problems opening old X1 projects in X2... but seriously you should leave X1 installed just to be safe. Cheers.

You would get back about 100Mb by uninstalling X1. There is some overlap that is significant, the Beatscape library. X2 dropped Beatscape but include the 4GB library in the loops and one-shots directories. If you do not use Beatscape, you can uninstall Beatscape using the Windows Control Panel Uninstall function. If you want to keep Beatscape, you can manually delete the Beatscape Factory Content directory and create a junction with mklink to the Cakewalk Content/Audio Library/Loops directory.

100Mb eh? Man, that's like nothing. Good to know.

Yeah, the hard drive space you can save is insignificant, even with multiple versions of Sonar installed. The same doesn't apply of course to content data which runs to many Gigabytes - a full Dimension Pro installation will on its own eat up about 6Gb

The sfz engine synths have presented some challenges when moving from one version of SONAR to another. In the case of DimPro, since the X1 version is identical to the X2 version, it might be a good idea to skip that install. I mentioned Beatscape before because a full install of X2 Producer results in 4GB of duplicate loops being installed.

In any case, it's fair to say that X1 can safely be uninstalled, if desired.

Yes you can uninstall X1 and work on an unfinished project in X2 if you wish but it would be: 1) Unwise to do so as there might be an issue with X2 making it difficult to complete the unfinished project and 2) Unnecessary as the disk savings is minimal.

For me I have not uninstalled a Sonar to date. LOL. There is an advantage in not doing so. The new version can read the ini files from the old and transfer that information to the new. This can save a lot of setup time. In my case I really only care about the master.ini file. It holds all the MIDI instrument ini info for various hardware synths I have. Key bindings will also be transfered. When I went to win 8 I did so with a clean install which meant no old Sonars on the new HD. So I just copied over the needed files and replaced the new files and had no trouble getting my hardware synths working with all the patches and banks plus expansions cards that are on them. I haven't had to setup Sonar for years because of this ability. What the bottom line on this is you have a choice that has no wrong answer. However if you do have a somewhat complicated setup let Sonar migrate the infor from the old to the new. Or copy the files you may want to keep to a safe place then replace the new files with the old. These are the .ini files Sonar uses for setup and configuration.

I uninstalled it after x2 installed. Had problems. If you do need to I would suggest uninstall first then install x2. That worked on a laptop for me.
