Hey bapu; The Edge?
Baps,
Have you seen the Edge? Not the one made in 1997 but the Russian train movie made in 2010.
It was one of those, nothing special, yet fantastic movies where the director seemed to know what movies are actually good at and then made a movie doing all sorts of good movie making things.
It just sort of stood out as better than most.
It was in Russian, and I found some small humor in the fact that some characters were speaking German and that I could actually understand them even tough I don't really know German. I guess I know enough to get by. So, I'd be reading the sub titles for the Russian intently (proof to me that it was a good movie because usually I read the subtitles with less focus) and every now and then I could relax because I could actually understand the German. It surprised me. :-) Anyways, enough about me.
I liked the softness or gentleness or lack of overt drama that the director and editor presented... it seemed like they had confidence that the story was strong enough to go long and have it just sort of play out using the best aspects of traditional film maker story telling to keep you interested.
Maybe you will or have had a chance to see it for yourself?
One thing is for sure, after watching the movie you'll be more appreciative of the fact that we have kettles to pop our corn in... not everyone gets to be so lucky.
best regards,
mike
