hiss sound in exported files - Sonar X2 Essentials

I have a mix that sounds good when I listen to it in Sonar X2. Once I export it, hiss starts creeping in slowly and becomes worse with time. Verified with Wave (16 and 24 bit) as well as MP3 (16 bit) export. I am definitely disappointed - I acquired the software recently and expect basic things to work. Yes - I am running on Windows 8. So, are you saying that the more times you listen to your Export, the more you're getting hiss?

What on earth are you playing it through?

And the export settings you are using would help too.

Export to Wav at 44.1/16bit as a start.  If there's no 'hiss' in the X2 mix, there is no reason you'd hear artefacts on the export.  Unless you are using a demo synth that introduces hiss as part of the crippleware (Diva does this for example).

You must be using the new analog true cassette tape plugin. Is it live or is it true cassette?

The easiest way to confirm that your export has rendered properly is simply to re-import it back into the same Sonar project - solo it and route it's output directly to your soundcard, bypassing any busses

As wood67 said. Some plugins (older Voxengo?) would generate intermittant white noise after the trial period expired.

+1 to the trial plug in, I had that happen before, but it did it while still in Sonar.. drove me nuts until I by passed all efxs to narrow it down.
I can't think of how you could write code that "new" you were exporting however.

    Thanks for the pointers.

    Additional information:
System: Windows 8, Sonar X2 Essentials, Tascam US-1641 interface
Track 1: Vocals --> Cakewalk FX Compressor/Gate ("Light Vocal Compression" preset) --> Cakewalk Reverb (Room preset)
Track 2: Guitar --> Cakewalk FX Compressor/Gate ("Acoustic Guitar Compression" preset with Output Gain being set to 0.0 dB) --> Reverb (Room preset HP filter turned on)
Track 3: Guitar --> Cakewalk FX Compressor/Gate ("Acoustic Guitar Compression" preset with Output Gain being set to 0.0 dB) --> Reverb (Room preset HP filter turned on)

This is my first mix and I wanted to keep things simple. When I said the hiss gets progressively noisy in Wave/MP3 format, it starts around 1:30 into the song and keeps getting worse. The song is about 8 minutes long.

I will definitely try removing the compressor and reverb, and see what happens.

    Thanks!
    Ravi

I notice you a Tascam US-1641 and I checked it doesn't have Windows 8 drivers yet. That could be your problem. The last driver is dated from 2010.

I am happy to report the issue is fixed!!!

In listening to the mix again, the hiss was there even when I listen to it in X2. Hence, it is not just an Export issue. Once I removed the Stereo Reverb from the tracks, hiss went away. I wonder if the lesson is not to use stereo reverb in a mono track?

    Thanks for the clues!

    You need to use dubley.

Not if it's a rock track.  Everyone knows you don't record rock with dubley, surely?

I would suspect a plugin. Try exporting a file with global bypass enabled and see if the hiss is still there. I recently noticed a subtle hiss in an export and realized it was coming from a tape sim. I just hadn't noticed it until I sat back with headphones and listened closely, away from the computer.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
