*WHEEEZE*

oof... they didn't clean up all the dust from the new laminate flooring in here and I didn't realize until late yesterday. Now I'm choking on this crap. Gonna have to clean that up today before doing any more unpacking. *sigh*

    That sucks.

You have to use a fine saw blade when cutting that laminate and it makes a very fine dust. Even a little bit of it can spread a long ways.

Going on 2 months ago now, before we moved in to the new house, we had the old Popcorn Texture removed from the ceiling. They seal the entire house off with plastic, it looked like that scene from E.T.. They scrape it off and basically re-tape, and re-mud every joint and screw. Sand it, then apply new texture, and paint.

We still have to clean every few days because of that fine white dust from the sanding. It is still getting everywhere. You'd think after almost 2 months it would be all gone.

We think it got in to the duct work, and up in to the attic and it's just going to take some time for it to work it's way out of the house.

We're having attic insulated on Dec. 19th. They are going to seal the entire attic, air tight, from the rest of the house. Every light fixture, electrical box, and gap where a pipe or wire runs through. Hopefully that will stop a lot of it.

Right now there's only 2 ~ 3 inches of insulation in the attic. How this house made it 23 years without anyone adding any insulation to it boggles my mind. But that's another story for another thread.

Good luck getting that cleaned up Beepster. And take it easy with the back. If it's really bad, I'd consider calling them back.

Thanks, bub. There are a LOT of problems in here that were supposed to be fixed that weren't. The dust is just annoying. I'm just gonna go around with a damp rag and hit the walls as best I can and mop the floor. I used to work with that stuff all the time and I'm particularly sensitive to it now. It's quite toxic. You should see the paint job they did too. Like it was done by an 8 year old. No patching, no taping, didn't cut in the corners properly. Brutal. However the big stuff is what I'm going to squeak about. I can deal with the painting... although very slowly.

As far as you dust problem... for now get some of the best furnace filters you can find and see if you can get one of those filter holder thingies that zap the dust with a small electrical current. Should help keep it down. Then get a pro duct cleaning place in. You can also yank the registers off and get in there with a damp rag on a stick or snake and try to pull up as much as you can and if you want to go real crazy you can rolls of furnace filter stuff, cut it to size and screw the registers back over top of that. Eventually that should catch the last of the dust inside the ducts and you could maybe avoid paying the cleaner guys. Oh... and a shop vac with a super long flexible hose and a brush attachment could help suck out a bunch of the dust in the ducts.

There are protocols when working with materials that cause fine particle dust but too many idiots ignore those procedures and it really sucks for those who have to live in it. Particularly people with respiratory problems. That shiz can KILL someone with severe asthma or other ailments. When I used to do this stuff I'd fire anyone who just let dust fly everywhere. Not cool.

Oh wow. Just did a light mop then wipe down with a dry towel of the main room floor  around the stacks of boxes and crap... can already breathe easier. Man that stuff is nasty. I can't believe they didn't at least do a quick vacuum. What a waste of time. Wiping down the walls is going to be the real pain though. This is definitely going to be mentioned to the management. Just glad I realized what was up before setting up my gear. The dust was so fine you couldn't see it until you ran your finger along something.
