No matter what, Korean chicks are hot

I was in all probability the very last person on the planet to view the Gangnam Style video. 

This Psy fellow piqued my curiosity, so I watched some other, earlier vids and read his bio. I'd somehow got the impression that he was another obscure YouTube discovery, but in fact he's been packing stadiums with elaborate shows for quite a while - in Korea, anyhow. We're talking big-budget extravaganzas and levels of crowd enthusiasm we haven't seen since Beatlemania. 
 
What I like about this guy is he's not some officially-sanctioned corporate face-of-the-week, but has been sent up to the majors by a genuine grassroots mandate. Somehow I find that encouraging, that stars can still be made by fans alone, independently of any corporate machine.


But no, I will not be attempting the dance myself.

I can't stand it myself but I can appreciate that it's appreciated.
 
It kind of got lost at the point 'Beatlemania' got coined as something tangible and therefore something that could be banked, formulated, regurgitated and banked again thus preventing such a natural occurence ever occuring again.
 
Until it eventually showed up somewhere else where the bankers weren't looking.

I predict that there will be other parallels between Psy and the Beatles. 

He will open the door for other Asian acts to get worldwide attention. Just as the British Invasion bands took American pop, blues, jazz and soul, applied their own spin and sent it all back to us, so have Asian bands been doing the same thing for years, just more quietly. You might be surprised to find that dying genres such as Prog, surf music, trad country and even American Folk are thriving in isolated pockets around Asia. 

I know there are some extraordinary Prog and Metal bands out of the Philippines that can't get a gig anywhere, but might if they had a chorus of cute semi-clothed dancers behind them!

Ya gotta be careful though. Sometimes there's a little bit extra there than what meets the eye.
