cleanup software

So a couple years back I took the machine to a shop who did a cleanup and cleared hundreds of gigabytes of trash from it.
I'm assuming that there are tons of sound files etc being stored that aren't being used?
What's a good ane reliable program (or utility) for that?
I do disc cleanup etc.
 
I wanna back everything up properly befor I get out the mop......

    Windows has built in disk cleanup option.  ccleaner (free) is a very popular program for cleaning out temporary files, browser cache files, etc. 

    Registry cleaners generally are not needed and the registry cleaners (or whatever they want to call themselves) can be dangerous and cause more problems than they claim to fix.  ccleaner has a registry cleaner in it but I don't use that part.

    Sound files are another issue and I don't think there is a program for those.

    Hi Steve,

    Clean up of files is best done manually IMO.
    Little bit of a PITA, but I don't want an app deciding which files get deleted.

    As far as cleaning the registry, if you do a lot of install/uninstall, it's a good idea to clean out the registry.
    Many apps leave lots of "remnants" in the registry when uninstalled.
    Ccleaner is fine for this purpose...

    Always make sure you have an up-to-date backup image (when the system is working well)... and you're good-to-go.
