I was right in the middle of a guitar solo...
... and I was ripping it a new one with the hi-gain and my Seymour Duncan PAFs when the phone rang; "Can you do a live shot over in the Panhandle at 1730?" "Uh... sure... what time is it now?" So I loaded up my gear and picked up a camera person in town and started driving west. The phone rings; "Hi this is New York, just calling to confirm that you'll have the gov seated and ready at 1630?" "uh.... No." The phone rings about 12 more time as 3 different people take turns exploring the possibility of distorting reality. "I'm doing the best I can... we scrambled right away and we're on the highway doing 80 but it's a 3 hour drive" I can hear through the veil of professional courtesy that this news isn't well received by the folks that have to pass on the info to the decision makers. The phone rings again; "Hi this Mike..." "Hi Mike this is the Governor... how soon can you make it, the schedule is kinda tight" "Yes sir, right away sir... ASAP" "Ok, well... when you get here we are going to need to go live as soon as you get out of the Van." "Yes sir." We get there at 1642 and New York breathes a sigh of relief. The Sat truck is on the bird and we just plug in and our vip stars speaking with New York. I set up lights while the camera person speaks with his director on his headset. At 1648 we are done and start breaking down. Our vip is incredibly warm, hospitable, and kind to us and he thanks us for the effort. 1700: wheels up and returning to home. I think I may try driving an ambulance in my next career. I never had a Gov call my personal cell phone and say "Hi Mike..." It's the small things that keep it all interesting. Today, I plan on playing some loud guitar!!! Please excuse the babble... I'm still a bit revved up from making the run. best regards, mike

That sounds like quite the Adrenaline rush Mike. :) I used to fix the office equipment at one of the Capital buildings in one of the states I used to work in. Don't want to say which one as the threat of the Black Tahoe's is ever present. ;-) The big G goes in to the Executive wash room and he's in there a while. The machine I was working on was right outside the door. After about 20 minutes I hear him call for his assistant. He couldn't figure out how to get the hand towel dispenser to advance to clean towels and needed help. .... A year or so later the wife and I pull up to a Caribou Coffee and low and behold ... he's getting out of his Black Tahoe with his entourage going in to get a Latte'. 1 guy in front with the coiled black ear piece, 2 behind, and the typical hot female assistant walking next to him writing things down on a clip board as he's gabbing away. It was like a scene out of a bad movie. :-)

We record our "Guv" (and all those before him for the last twenty some odd years...yes, Bill and Mike too) quite often...course he only lives 3 blocks from the studio so that might have somethin to do with it. But as I just returned from Melbourne FL...I will commiserate mightily with ya Mike...that pan handle drive from Tally to Pensacola is a ****.

We generally make it to Pennsacola on day one and then wait to have lunch just after we turn down 75 at Lake City on day two. I'll lobby to stop in Tally town instead and give ya a ring:-)

I would have told the Governer that I didn't recognize his voice at first since it sounded a little different than on the FBI prostitution sting wire taps. Always good to loosen those types up a bit, eh?
