This is so sad
Was it Bullying and pushing her to a point of no return? The nurse that was fooled on the call about Catherines morning sickness http://www.cnn.com/?sr=fbmain

Just breaks my heart to see the actions of others push someone into this.

That's a sad story. The excuse given that it was all meant in fun seems to be a popular excuse made by people who do not empathize with those whom they impact with their deeds and statements. :-(

Nobody pushed her. A couple of idiots called up pretending to be the Queen and asked how she was doing. They didn't say or do anything derogatory to the nurse, or anyone really. I don't see this as bullying at all. Just a stupid prank that happened to catch a mentally disturbed person off guard. What's scary about this is, she was well liked and respected, yet nobody saw this underlying problem? You don't kill yourself over a prank phone call ... there was a lot more going on below the surface than she let on. Who knows what this may have manifested in to had she gone on without getting help for her mental illness.

Bub, Consider the idea that after violating the privacy policy of the hospital and it's V.I.P. clients someone that actual mattered to the nurse may have said something like "You will never work in a hospital again". The prank phone call was an act of misrepresentation amounting to fraud and that act of fraud impacted a person who was victimized by the fraud and probably ended a career in the field they were trained for. The idea of that makes me sad. The idea that it provided a good laugh for nit wits makes me sadder. The idea that someone would defend the privilege to do that to people almost depresses me. I'm not suggesting that you should feel that way... but that's how it makes me feel. best regards, mike

if she took her own life then she was already having problems we don't know about. however, I do agree completely with mike. by doing nothing more than passing the caller on "as family" then she unwittingly was duped into violating the medical privacy laws and therefore her career as a nurse would be over.

But it's still not worth taking your own life over, and the laugh was that the Queen called, not that someone died. I'm 100% certain that nobody made that call with the thought in mind or intent that someone would die. They said they expected to be hung up on and didn't even know what to say when they were put through to the ward she was staying in. If you value your career over your own life ... there's much deeper problems going on there than just two guys pretending to be the Queen of England making you look bad. Bullying ... no way. Should they be fired ... probably. And her career isn't the only one that's over because of this.

Maybe she was reprimanded by her employers and that pushed her over the edge. Or maybe she had a little visit & warning from MI5 that scared the bejesus out of her. The prank probably caused a lot of embarrassment both for the hospital and the Royal Family. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that she took it in the neck from both angles.

What isn't clear is how the call got put through to a ward at all..this girl was a nurse, not switchboard.

Just my personal feelings but have to go with McCue on this. By impersonating the Royal Family they put her in an untenable position. If it is the Royal Family and she refuses to connect the call she's probably fired. If it isn't the Royal Family and she connects the call she's probably fired. Quick make a decision. You have 3 seconds. I agree that to me it wouldn't be worth taking my life but we don't know her situation, and surely the pranksters didn't think this through. A sad story indeed.

I would suspect MI7 but that would be in bad form so I will agree with both Bub and Mike. There is more than meets the eye and it is very sad. I'm sure that the blame will fall squarely on the DJs but it may actually lie elsewhere. We may never know. I am so sorry for her family and for Kate who must feel horrible about this too. I also have done pranks that turned out to be a bad idea. Life is so precious and we hold so it so carelessly in such fragile containers. Who would have thought that call would end in this... no one I think. It certainly is sad... that much we know. J

Nobody is sure of the cause of her making the decision to end her own life as yet, the Hospital and St James palace have both issued statements saying that she was supported and not subject to any disciplinary action as a result of being duped. If the two broadcasters responsible are feeling bad about their actions just now whether they were an influence in the decision that ultimately led to this death or not then you could class them as having at least some sense of human responsibility. Sometimes tragedy is just that, it doesn't lessen because there may be a cause to point fingers at. There's also a point to be learned as to whether she'd still be alive today without the action of those radio presenters. What we do does have an impact and it can be the unseen last straw that would bring about a decision for someone to take their own life. Sometimes we say things expressly to make an impression, an impact or cause influence, we can't then say we haven't played a part and she died because she's was just a flake. I agree totally with the OP's title, it's very, very sad.

Yup, I understand Bub what you are saying. Thats just kind of how it struck me initially when I seen this. I guess what I meant by Bullying is all that happened after the fact and how it all hit her personally. Im sure there is more to her story prior to this but with the scope of the situation and it being Royalty and all the publicity hitting her from this, it had to be a HUGE factor in her actions. No telling how Englands Patient confidentiality Laws compare to ours (HIPPA). In hind-sight Im sure there are MANY ways this particular thing could have went better but I imagine that when you are a tending nurse to royalty and a call come in saying its the Queen and wanting to check up on her, well the brain will do funny things to you and how you respond at that point in time. No telling. Just a sad story

Sadly, in our day, when something goes wrong... Fault lies... points over to left, or fault lies... points over to right, fault never lies... points to self. The DJ's really should bear at least some responsibility for the damage their actions caused. Their actions did put someone in an impossible situation. IMO if one does a stupid prank, one bears the consequences. On a different level, the nurse also made the choices she made for the actions she took. We really don't know what went on behind the scenes, and given liability issues probably never will.

Very sad but there must be more to it than the prank call. Even Charlie was joking with a TV crew about it (the prank call) last night. When asked for his views on Kate being pregnant he said "How do you know I'm not a radio station?" and then laughed. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20631818
