How's the Akai EIE stack up?

How's the Akai EIE stack up?

Are the drivers any good?

I have a neighbor who is asking me to help him get a DAW running based on one of these and I'm just sorta wondering what to expect.

Thanks.

best regards,
mike

Old McQ he fixed a card EIE IO...

Google it Mike, it's no great shakes but ought to be serviceable.  I wouldn't recommend it unless he's already got one that he wants to get working tho.  Most of 'em are 16 bit only unless it's a pro-24.

Something like the little Focusrite Scarlett one or one like mine (Roland Quad) would be a better bet on a similar budget.  Having said that the Pro 24 does offer true 4X4 IO which might swing things in it's favour.
The pro 24 was only introduced at NAMM 2011 so the drivers should be current.

He's indicated that he has already got one. I had seen that it might be 16bit, I hope it's 24.

    Thanks.

Mike that should be OK. After all it's got VU meters on the front and therefore it must be good!  Not sure what they are measuring though!

I think as long as the drivers seem OK and you can get the computer to see it and hence the software to see it you should be good to go. The specs mention USB 1 (or USB 1 compatible) so not sure what that is about. It is a relatively newish thing though from what I can see. It looks rather cool though.

Hey Mike did you see my post here:
