2nd look at MySpace?
Can't decide what I think about the new revamped MySpace which is coming soon. Preview video can be found here: https://new.myspace.com/ On the one hand, it's a pretty slick looking design. On the other hand, it looks like they're trying too hard to look "Windows 8-hip" (did I just say that?) One the one hand, maybe they'll start getting users back. On the other hand, maybe the brand is irreversibly associated with the word "naff" and nothing can be done to save it.

Fixing the design is one thing, but, what's the site's mission? Facebook has taken over the social networking aspect. Myspace had moved on to be some sort of weird media hub - which was as useless as it was desperate. They alienated so many people that I hardly imagine them making a come back. My 2 cents - they should have left it alone in the first place.

Can't see the point of it now. They shot themselves in the foot and everyone fled to FB. I don't think there's any coming back from that.

I totally agree about FB having a foothold. That's why Google+ never got off the ground. I said that from the start even as people were calling it the Facebook killer. I said that the only people who would switch would be geeks and tech heads and people who are digitally "with it." The other 99% - aka the "masses" - wouldn't budge for love nor money. Why? Because they've just invested years of their lives on their Facebook account. They've uploaded years of memories, thoughts, photographs. The very idea that they were going to ditch all that and start all over again was preposterous. Facebook is adequate as a social networking medium and what's wrong with it ain't enough to persuade them to abandon everything they've uploaded and move to another site. But I don't think the new MySpace is trying to compete with Facebook.....they MUST know they have no chance on that score. It's got to be something different....somewhere to promote yourself and what you do rather than goof off with friends and family. Facebook Pages are pretty lame. MySpace was always a good place for bands to promote themselves...the problem was it was plagued by terrible design and 99% of the pages on it ended up looking like complete crap with awful jerky backgrounds and the most horribly unreadable color combinations. It seems a lot slicker and more usable now. So maybe it'll take off....just not as a Facebook substitute.

I'm not exactly sure what to make of that preview video regarding the new look of MSpce and I won't know for sure until it's launched. My primary use for both sites is to use them as over-sized E-Business Cards. And the most active times I'm on these sites is for whenever I get an E-Mail saying; 'Important Changes' {DOH!} and here I go again; . Go thru all privacy settings (set to Highest Level) . Go thru all security settings (set to Highest Level) . Go thru all notification settings . Possibly Readjust header or, Redo artwork. . Possibly Redo Background image or, colors . Possibly Readjust layout and such . Possibly Redo my ugly profile pic . Possibly Re-upload some widgets that have for whatever reason stopped working {DOH!} And then Log-Out and hopefully not have to Log-In to MySpace and FB for quite a while. Whenever I login or visit I always do a complete utter system clean-up (PC) after I have logged out or simply visiting (also regularly use; ctrl+shift+del) and I also have browser addons such as; ' Privacy Fix'

It seems a lot slicker and more usable now. So maybe it'll take off....just not as a Facebook substitute. I was an early user on MySpace - 2003-ish, IIRC. It wasn't really musician-friendly, you couldn't really upload your music, customizing page was almost an exploit. In fact, I remember getting my own domain so that I could upload my music somewhere and link it in my blog on MS. It was social networking, period. But I guess that musicians saw the potential. From 2006 to 2008, I thought it was actually pretty cool. You still had to dig in if you really wanted to customize your page, but it was easier. Incidentally, that's where I met my wife, back in 2007. I think started to go downhill in 2009, rapidly. I do miss MySpace, in a way. It offered a nice tribune to musicians and artists. It could be as relaxed or as formal as you wanted it to be. I used to keep a blog w/ my "studio diaries", chronicling how the projects were evolving, what I was working on, analyzing what worked and what didn't, and all of that. Sometimes it drifted into self-analysis. But there was more of a continuity, a bigger picture. As a musician, Facebook is to MySpace what Twitter is to Facebook.

I quit MySpace because EVERY time I go in my computers freak out with all the attempted attacks by one virus or another. Just gets old and never had a problem on FB with it.

57Gregy digi2ns I quit MySpace because EVERY time I go in my computers freak out with all the attempted attacks by one virus or another. Just gets old and never had a problem on FB with it. Ditto. As visitors may stumble on this topic I think it's fair to warn IMO that 'No Social Network is Safer' here's one example; Koobface These types of viruses (Multi-Platform Worms) that spread on FB are able to perform the following functions: Spread through social networks. Steal confidential information such as; logins. Inject advertising into web browsers. Redirect web browsing to malicious sites. Intercept Internet traffic. Block access to certain Internet sites. Start a web server to serve as a command and control server for other Koobface infections. Download additional files, such as updates to itself and other pay-per-install software that includes fake security products. Steal software license keys. Break CAPTCHAs. Determine if a link is blocked by Facebook. Create new Blogspot accounts and pages. Modify the Hosts file. Since I rarely login to MySpace for several years during that time I thought (like you guys) that FB was safer?, and as usual I've been very cautious, always keep security suit up-to-date, use CClean after each session, always use Malwarebytes and SpyBot's Search & Destroy.... but apparently all that did not prevent either my wife or I or a friend from being infected virus (worm), just one click on a photo or video, my wife and I had both our FB accounts unlawfully accessed along with bank account; though luckily that bank account was not our primary account though still we immediately closed that account. After that incident as time went by I received Emails from friends and family on FB who have shared similar experiences (different viruses)! None of them had their bank accounts hacked as these were different type of viruses, really nasty viruses that wreaked havoc with their computers. And again mid this year I found and removed 3 viruses off my wife's computer, luckily these viruses were not so nasty. So anyway, I have reduced my participation on social sites dramatically, but there is another network that is a threat; The Internet! {DOH}! @ Gregy, In regards to another thread you posted on; the FB voting has 'already ended' and for anyone who may be interested about protecting their privacy on FB; Read This .
