SSD?

So as I'm going to try to get a few more months of service from the Gateway before I go platinum I'm adding mopre RAM and swapping the 500 g file drive with a 1T.
 
As for the boot-program drive is it worth it to replace it with a 512 g SSD?
I've seen em for under 400 bucks.
 
And can Acronis restore selected programs and files to the boot drive?
 
I'm assumong doing a full backup swapping the drives and running the restore disk.

    If you reinstall the OS on a new drive (SSD or regular) you will have to install the programs.  You can't copy them or restore them from a backup, they have to be installed using the program's installation procedure. 

    You can copy/restore user data.

    Hi Steve,

    All you need to do is create a backup image file of the whole boot drive (MBR included) using Acronis True Image.
    Pop in the replacement boot drive (conventional HD or SSD)... and restore the backup image file to this new drive.

    When you boot-up, the OS and all programs/etc will be intact (just like it was when the backup was created).


    SSD will make Windows just a little snappier (apps open quicker).
    Where SSD really shines is disk-streaming sample libraries... where you're looking to achieve massive polyphony.
    A good SATA-III SSD sustains 500+MB/Sec.
    A good SATA-III conventional HD sustains ~140+MB/Sec.
