Ravi Shankar R.I.P.
The weird thing is that I recall somebody mistakenly posting his obit a while back. In any event ... an influence on modern pop culture and music!

Wow, I didn't know the first time was premature. I've been listening to his first 3 albums for the past 6 months in homage... and they have deeply effected me in a good way. His early recordings are really special to me... the music seems to fill the room and enter the spirit. best regards, mike

Hi, Yeah ... and I wrote some nice things on the original one, and it was the wrong one. RIP Folks like him will be missed ... even the CHB could have used him some, or even Yehudi Menuhin, but what the heck ... it's ok without them! I really liked the East Meets West shows and caught them in Chicago on my Senior Year in High School on a field trip where we also got to see Richard Kiley in "Man of La Mancha", which, of course, I didn't care for, as I like the original story and how it was written, by the Spanish Shakespeare, called Cervantez, but the high school thought the musical was better than the literature! But there are two memories that are forever cemented in my mind in that day ... the first being the fat old bags in smelly perfumes, coming out of the concert and saying ... all that improvisation, how can that be music? ... and then the massively huge ... totally awesome ... El Greco, at the Chicago Art Institute. The guts, the ability and the desire ... to show others ... that there is more music out there than you or I will ever know ... is forever forgotten ... and aside from a wonderful handful of folks here, a sad reminder that we simply are not interested in knowing more than the little we know. RIP ... because today, in my heart is a sad day ... not for you and your family, for we're all proud to have seen, known and appreciated you ... for the wonderful musical soul and heart that you showed us ... for that I'm proud to have been there, and above all, to know what the music meant, and what you thought we needed to know ... still a lot of work to be done ... it's not any better today than yesterday 40 years ago, but at least the stuff is now available, when yesterday it wasn't and the media in America made it sound like a novelty and a weird one at that. Guts, in music ... is for the giants in the heart and the soul ... and those who mean it! The rest? ...
As a wise Guy once stated from his holy chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... prevents you from becoming just another turkey in the middle of all the other turkeys!

Jonbouy Encore! His daughter, has an interesting touch ... I am not sure that she knows how to "let go" like he did, and survive with a piece in her hands, like he did ... he was the ultimate master of improvisation, and probably the only person I would have loved to see play with him, would have been Jon McGlothlen, or Manuel Gottsching. I doubt that many other guitarists could let go and just fly all over the place! And pull off a TRUE RAGA with a rock instrument ... still not done very well with a guitar, btw ... and we do not mean 4 minutes! She's not as adventurous and unafraid as he was when it came to trying out different things, and musics and other parts of the world. Reminds me of that Wembley Concert that has Bruce S in it, and Shankas (the violinist) is playing with him, and Bruce goes ... what key are you in, man? ... and he says ... you no worry about the key ... you just play and I join in! ... which tells you that this person has a VERY keen ear for music, that Bruce can only identify a few keys or chords ... and this is the part of rock music ... that could get better to help take the music further up the scales of history, rather than the scales of money!

bapu I did (@ 5:26 - 5:41) in THIS SONG. But I wanted you to have a duet with the guitar for 10 minutes ... not 15 seconds!
