Motu 828 mkII hybrid..connect via firewire or USB?..

In order to dispose of a sub mixer i upgraded to the motu 828mkII hybrid, and the toy fairy has just dropped it off.

So, while i rebuild my desk and wire everything up and get this going in standalone mode, I have a question to users of such as to whether there is any preference to connect via firewire or USB?..

thanks muchly

Firewire if you have it, but the difference isn't significant enough to justify buying a Firewire adapter if you don't.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

If you have both options, try each one for a while and see which one works best, then let us know.

Otherwise use which ever one you have available. They both work well.

I'm not using an 828, but I have an ultralite hybrid.

but I get more pops/crackles, etc using USB than I do with firewire.  I did have to buy a TI chipset firewire card, the VIA chipset onboard caused pops and crackles as much as the USB did.

I can use USB, but not at low latency. and I can use lower latency on firewire than I can USB.

Unfortunately my laptop has no Firewire nor any way of adding it so I'm stuck with USB.

    .
Unless there's an external firewire card I can hook via... USB!

I'd stick with USB - I've got an Ultralite III Hybrid and the USB works well.  You'll probably have to faff with legacy Firewire drivers and finding a reliable card whereas USB just works: it may not be absolutely as efficient, but it'll be easier to get running reliably.  And Firewire is pretty much dead technology now, whereas USB isn't.
