It seems to me, from all that I have read, that from "the perspective of production", that Windows 8 is more suited to facebook and sharing, and being a general geek, not being in business to get something done and make money. I need to be able to run Sonar, then click to run the midi app that lets me edit guitar and bass setups, click to pop up the software tuner to make sure the instruments are in tune, click to open Excel to keep track of how many hours these posers are burning through, and then click back to Sonar to continue laying down tracks. Isn't that what we all are doing? And isn't that a lot more difficult to do in Win8 because you can't really jump around between open apps?

Alt+Tab continues to cycle through open applications in Windows 8, so switching between them is still quite simple and fast. The Metro active tile concept is something I do not care for in Win 8, but I just pinned my most frequently used applications to the task bar and work mostly from the desktop. For infrequently but still used applications, I usually create an active tile for them, so a quick hit on the Windows key and those applications are right there for quick execution, as well. There is no compelling reason for moving from Windows 7 to Windows 8, and Windows 7 is a great and stable platform for running pretty much everything. Should you or anyone choose to go to Windows 8, or buy a new computer with it installed, it will still work fine - provided there are drivers for your software/hardware configuration in Windows 8. Isn't that what we all are doing? And isn't that a lot more difficult to do in Win8 because you can't really jump around between open apps? I'm sorry to say this, this way but that is pure BS. Win 8 is more productive than any previous version. What you get in effect is two OSs. If you wish to stay in the start screen do so but Win 8 offers more hard core production ability than any of its older and out of date brother OSs. One example is Libraries. A way to have all your audio across multiple disks accessed from one folder. This is just one of many enhancements in Win 8. Vista introduced dynamic disks where a disk could grow as needed by using space from other disks. Win 8 has taken this idea and created disk space where it does much the same but the space is seen as one huge disk and is actually accessing multiple disks. And so on. Than Win 8 offers better and easier multiple monitor support. UAC is no longer an intrusive security problem but a useful way to have total control on what gets installed. The list of improvements is long. What MS has done is learned what worked well in previous versions and tweaked them to be better and more useful in this version. To say that Windows 8 is for any type of usage shows total ignorance of it. Apps can be very useful if you give them a chance. But you are not required to use apps at all. In fact with Classic Shell you can bypass the Start screen if you wish. It runs classic programs as well and often better than all the past MS OSs. It will breath new life into an older machine. Those that have not use it for a long enough time or those that don't have it need not comment on it. They are only repeating what someone else has said without questioning the statement. I could go on be I will leave with this. Windows 8 is a fabulous OS. The very best one MS has ever put out.

Where the heck did Windows 8 is for facebook sharing come from? Huh? Strangely I find myself agreeing with John, although I'm not really into the "apps" that Microsoft wants us to get hooked on, however the functionality is easily ignored when you've set it up correctly to your needs. ALT-TAB jumps around applications BTW. (I've got an Android for "apps" BTW I don't need Windows).

Just to prove if you wait long enough anything is possible.

The 4GB+ USB Copy bug was enough for me to switch to Win8.

Not sure what bug that is, but there is a 4Gb limitation on FAT being old technology. If you format with NTFS there should be no issues. .. and nowadays there's exFAT with Win 8.

Installed 2 laptops at a small office this past week. Adding the network printers was automatic. Way faster than 7. I was relieved to not have to add HP direct, and IP addresses,... ---------------------- Some of the interface stuff is WAY stupid. But once the machine is configured, and shortcuts are added/deleted where needed, tis no different than 7 for most uses. And big updates are frequent almost weekly. Wish X2 updates would be as often.
