Audio Snap/Drum Replacement Question

Greetings,

I'm working on a remix project where I need to do some drum replacement.

Using a combination of the ProChannel EQ and the Gate it's easy to bounce out tracks where the transients can accurately be identified by Audio Snap with a little adjustment on the Threshold setting. However, when adjusting this so that only the relevant transients are active there are still the little greyed out diamonds showing in between beats/transients. When copying the midi data and pasting this into a new midi track these greyed out notes appear - and I don't want them to!

The only way I've found to get round this is to manually go through the transients in Audio Snap view for the whole track and delete these greyed out notes individually. But this takes ages. Surely there is a quicker way?? What am I missing?

Any help most gratefully received.

Thank you.

Edit: And a supplementary question is, is there a way to copy or reflect the amplitude of the audio drum hits in the midi data created?

Hi Toby, not much consolation I know but if they are disabled they shouldn't be copied as MIDI data, not sure why you are seeing that. Are they definitely disabled?

Ref the ampitude, use the "Vary with pulse" option in the Audiosnap options.

    That's great thank you.

I'll try the vary with pulse thing.

It seems there are two types of greyed out diamonds, one with holes in the middle and one filled it. The filled in ones appear as midi and the ones with holes in don't. Do you know what the difference is?

The filled ones are "User" markers. It's a longstanding bug that SONAR arbitrarily inserts these on some or all beats when first enabling Audiosnap in some cases.

You can select them all and delete them. But because Delete Marker only gets one at a time, I suggest binding a key (e.g. Ctrl-Delete) to Delete Marker, so you can hold it down, and get all of them. I do this as a matter of course whenever User markers show up spontaneously.

The solid ones are user added, whereas the hollow ones are auto generated.

As you've probably noticed you can't delete auto generated transient markers, only disable them. You may be seeing a bug if you aren't adding transient markers manually. It's not something I've seen but IIRC I've seen it mentioned by others on here.

    Thank you very much.

The 'vary with pulse' is working - great tip thanks!

The extra 'user generated' markers must be from the bounce process. I ran the audio through the noise gate and EQ to isolate the frequencies of the drum hit and then bounced down. It must be this that's creating the extra markers. I'll try some other options now I know what's going on.

    Many thanks again!
