IT IS WHAT IT IS

We lost our friend Susan a few months ago to cancer.  This month she would have celebrated her birthday.  She held a great attitude throughout her life --- even up to the very end of her struggle against cancer.  I can only hope that this number captures a bit of that wonderful attitude.

This song is out on my typical style and preference of music.  I usually need help with the slower songs.  So --- any suggestions, comments, crit's, etc. would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Cancer - it's has touched us all - I survived it in 1994 - lost a good friend to it last week. So sorry for your loss.

Great tribute Freddy - very nice.

    Indeed. A heartfelt tribute.

Writing about someone is particular is always a hard write.  You did a good job.

While there might be some nits.... it is what it is....that's probably the best I can say.... I hate to comment on a song that is so emotionally close to the writer. Mostly I'd say some of the phrasing... the groove and how you work the rhythm pattern in a few places felt a little awkward to me... but that could also be just my personal preference.

A friend of mine also died from cancer after a battle of many years... I wrote a song about him and included mentions of some of his friends..... you may have seen it when I posted it back in August.... if not:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DmLXESjGWs   as in all works like this it was a labor of love and I just wanted to honor my friend's memory.

I think your song accomplishes the same goal.  Good job.

    Thanks Frank -- much appreciated!!

Thank you for the comments and sentiment Dave, and welcome to the forum!

Hi Robby.  Thanks for the kind sentiments.

Hey Mark and thank you.  I am glad that you beat it and are doing well.  I am sorry for your recent loss.  You are right --- too many of us have dealt with the scourge of cancer in one way or another.

Thank you Tim and thanks for your sentiment.  You're right -- we can only play the cards we are dealt and it is what it is.

    Hey Shad and thank you.

Hi Lynn.  Thanks for the kind words and sentiment.

Thanks for the sentiment James and thanks also for the kind words about the song.

Hey Herb.  Thanks for the comments.  I did have difficulty with the phrasing - particularly in the last verse.  At some point I'm going to go back and rework the vocal.  Thanks also for forwarding the link to your video.  I really enjoyed it.  The song was top notch and the visuals were a great complement to the music.  Yes indeed - you did a fine job in honoring your friend's memory.  Thanks again.

Hi Kevin.  Thanks a million for the kind comments.  I'll accept that any style is my style ---- as long as I don't have to be good at it.

    Hi Freddy,
Tried to access this link the other day but SoundCluck isn't exactly mobile-friendly. I was able to access it this time. It is a great song and a nice tribute to Susan. Sorry for your loss.

Good song and a fitting tribute.
Love the organ and and plucked guitar in the background - it has a sixties psychadelic feel (in a good retro modern way)
