Frequent Crashes?

Running Windows 8 64-bit. X2 PE, Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, i3570k, 8GB DDR3. Workflow is fine for the most part, Installed the 308 patch. Nothing. When I try to save it hangs and also has trouble with VST's that I'm trying to load. Think I should to a clean re-install? Or am I screwed until X2a?

    1.  What version of the drivers for your Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 are you running?  Their site has one that added Windows 8 support, just wondering if you are running it.

    2.  Are you plugged into a USB 2.0 port or a USB 3.0 port with your audio interface?

    3.  What audio driver mode are you running in Sonar?  (ASIO or WDM)

    4.  If not ASIO, run ASIO.  If ASIO, what sample rate and buffer size are specified in the audio interface?  Also, what is specified for sample rate within Sonar?

    5.  How did Windows 8 come to reside on your computer?  (upgrade or clean install?)

    6.  Have you tried disabling things like your anti-virus software during Sonar sessions?

    7.  Please specify which VST's are giving you trouble - also, are THEY indicated as running in Windows 8?  (I had to update a whole bunch of my Native Instruments Komplete 8 components to pick up Windows 8 support).  If you have not done this maintenance exercise, please do and post back results.

    8.  Have you tried running things in 32-bit Sonar?  If not, please do and post back on results.  If you have not yet tried this, please do, and post back with results.

    1. Running 2.4 the latest

    2. I've used both and it doesnt really seem to matter.

    3. ASIO

4 Flux higher and lower. Doubt this is the issue.

    5. Upgrade - Might be an issue

    6. Nah, will do and post results later.

    7. This is the kicker. Seems to happen when i'm loading REVALVER Mk 3 v. I take that track away and the program is fine.

    8. Have NOT used 32 bit. I know revalver is 32 though, think that might be the issue? Its also dropping my saves if i leave that vst active.

I did not understand your Flux higher and lower comment - the sample rates must match between Sonar and the audio interface, so if Sonar is sampling at 44.1, the interface must also be set to a sample rate of 44.1, or bad things can happen.

According to the support site for Revalver, there are downloads for both a 32-bit version AND a 64-bit version.

Here is the link to that page:

    http://www.peavey.com/products/revalver/#support
Here is the text for the changes in the latest free download:

Change Log for ReValver MK III Free Update
  • ProTools 8.0.3+ now work properly with context menus.
  • Replaced all native menus with custom ones, to bypass problems in certain hosts.
  • Graphs can now display the proper menu for zooming out.
  • A new custom file selector is available to replace the speaker IR drop down list to allow quick and easy IR file selection.
  • Convolution modules such as the speaker cabinet and convolution reverb now accepts custom created directories in the installation directories with either *.ewav or *.wav interchangably.
NOTE: Instead of "Loading" an external IR, please consider manually copying the file, or an entire directory to the proper resource directory. (ReValver now accepts *.wav files in its own directories.)
  • The resource directories for speaker impulses are:
    PC: C:\Program Files\Peavey Electronics\ReValver Mk III\impulses
    Mac: /Library/Application Support/Peavey Electronics/ReValver Mk III/impulses
  • The resource directories for convolution reverbs are:
    PC: C:\Program Files\Peavey Electronics\ReValver Mk III\reverbs
    Mac: /Library/Application Support/Peavey Electronics/ReValver Mk III/reverbs
  • Changed default values for 6505, 6505+ and JSX "power amp class".
  • Changed default values for 3120 amp power tubes.
  • Improvements to the VST host to ensure robustness and ease of use.
  • VST host now keeps better track of loaded presets.
  • Quick search in VST list.
  • Optional automatic refresh of plug-ins on disk.
  • Added warning message when trying to export preset or bank when none is selected.
  • Fixed bug in Limiter LM3 and compressor CS1 where crashes would occur in some hosts, if module was inserted on the fly.
Perhaps you want to download the latest version - and make it the 64-bit version, and see what happens when you load that into Sonar.  When you do, please post back with results,
