Stupid Human guitar tricks

In 2011 I got the idea that I could make money using You Tube. After all other people were doing it, but what could I do to make money? I decided to make little 5 to 15 minute video guitar lessons. The first step was to get a video camera and video editing software. The next step was to work out a course.

With that in mind I chose to give some advanced guitar lessons. I planned out 40 videos. I got the first 17 filmed and I decided I needed to write a theme song. I used the theme song for the first two levels in the introduction. I filmed the theme song and played the solo live. I tried to put as many tricks as I could in the short 3 m minute song. I only got about 30 percent of them in there but it demonstrates what the first 2 levels are about.

I pulled the videos down and due to major problems with You Tube I stopped the process. but here is the demo video with the stupid human guitar tricks. kind of funny when I look back on it now.

Pretty good at that orbiting Marcus :-) I agree Youtube has everything on it but is essentially unwatchable anymore.

Great playing and a cool song. I know its a bit late in the game, but man the guitar is way too buried. I can barely hear it. The acoustic overrides everything. I would love to hear the problems you had with YouTube. I have been thinking its time to dump all things google and restart my webservers and host my own site again.

twisted6s Thank You , I appreciate the comment.

The Band19 yes I am a regular space shuttle. lol. It's funny you should say that because I use to sell insurance long ago in the 90's. I also have old pics with my hair all the way down my back from way back in the 80's, from my big hair band days.

Guitarhaker I don't think the product placement was the problem it was more of a you tube problem.

Foxwolfen Yes I agree the solo needs to be louder. I need to take some time to fix it and make a few more corrections. Thank You for your input. much appreciated

    Mike_Mccue. Thank you for listening

Scottytunes. I have not mad a house call in a very long time. Back when I was teaching, I use to make house calls.

digi2ns, I am sorry the video would not work for you. I am currently debating over what to do with the other 17 videos. If I repost I will also remix and let you know where all of them are located.

Frank I made money but you tube never paid me. I will start from the beginning.

I opened up a you tube account and uploaded the first video I made. (dreamsong) In order to become a You tube partner I needed to have a high view count. I needed at least 7000 views to be a You Tube partner. So I filmed 5 hymns that I arranged for classical guitar. They were public domain and they were popular songs. I uploaded them to my You Tube account in may of 2011. By August I had the 7,000 hits I needed.

I filmed the lesson videos in October of that year. I edited them and copyrighted them through the library of congress. I was going to target advanced guitar playing. Things like open turnings and composition analysis.

You tube changed their policy (this was a Google thing) you no longer needed to be a You Tube partner to make money. Now all you needed to do was have an account with Google ad sense. So I opened an account and hooked it up to my You Tube account. I uploaded the videos and cleared them for monetization. This was in April of 2012

You Tube refused to monetize about 7 of the videos. I created all the material used in the video and there was no third party content. I even made up all the exercises. You Tube said there was copyright infringement. I filled out the proper forms and gave You tube the links to the library of congress that shows I hold the copyright to the videos. They sent me back a notice that said You Tube reserves the right to refuse any video they want for monetization. shortly after that they removed 4 of the videos in question from the account.

I tried to contact you tube directly but could not do so. I filled out several different forms and gave them proof of copyright ownership. All I ever got back from them was we reserve the right to refuse monetization of any video. After months of trying to jump through hoops to get the videos monetized I was ready to give up.

Then in early September of 2012 I looked at one of the videos that I was allowed to monetize. The advertisements that were attached to the video were all for websites that charge for guitar lessons. Paid memberships were required to view the lessons. Here I was giving away for free what these other sites were charging money to view.

Suddenly it all made sense. key videos were blocked and removed in an effort by You Tube to appease their advertisers. At least this is what I suspect. I believe the advertisers (which were Guitar learning websites) filed some sort of copyright infringement complaint with You Tube. Even though I could prove I had the rights You Tube sided with the advertisers so they can continue to collect ad revenue from them. At least this is what I believe.

I had set up a website to stream the videos from you tube and I had a whole marketing plan which I never implemented. By the end of September of 2011 I closed the you tube account and pulled all the videos off the internet. I closed my Ad Sense account as well. They were suppose to send me the money I earned from the monetized videos but I  never received it.

I think you Tube went downhill after Google purchased them. I still got about 30 videos to film. Now i am not sure what to do with this project. I thought about uploading them at my site and giving them away for free just to compete with the paid sites. still looking at options

I did notice that exact same circumstance as far as your situation this morning while trying to recover and save my iTUNES library off my iPOD (about 8k songs)

Many have posted how-tos but they are so mixed in with the ones that are allowed to try and sell a Program to do it for you from their YouTube account.  Corporate Greed I tell ya  LOL

Just have to spend the time to find the ones that are trying to help others without getting caught up in the way they are trying to go with it all

Best wishes and look forward to learning from all the work you put into what you have done so far

I am not really upset by it. I did spend over a year of my spare time setting this up. The biggest lesson here is that You Tube does serve a purpose. Making money on You Tube is not it's purpose. I can not trust them therefore I cannot be involved with them on a business level. Now I will never buy ads from them or Google.

However from a marketing stand point You Tube works well as a free service. To make videos to direct people to your site is a great way to generate traffic, or to make videos to showcase your products is another good use. I think the way cakewalk uses You Tube is really the only way to do it. Putting advertising on instructional videos with the hopes of making some money will never work well.

The videos that get millions of hits have legal teams that represent the Videos owner. Everyone gets their cut. The last thing I need is to be involved with an organization that is going to play politics with my work. That is why I would never sign a record contract. You Tube is a great marketing tool and that is all it is good for. They have the mega audience.

Sorry to hear about your Youtube experience, but that is some fine guitar work.  You're one of a handful of people here that I can't get enough of.  Cheers.

    All the best,

Ha!  I had to agree about the insurance salesman look...but it looks like you know how to fling that hair around...if there was any still left to fling.  :)  I must have sped-read your post (as usual) and I thought you said something about beginning guitar lessons.  After a few seconds in, I figured if that's beginning, then I'll never pick up a guitar again!  lol

Anyway, amazing playing!  Sad story.  I hope you find some way to make these available in a way that's also a help to you.

    Merry Christmas!

Picture me with Marcus's hair? I could have him scalped? And get the graft? It would take some $$ but it may be worth it? Shut up Marcus, you're a donner at this point...

bayoubill I am open for collaborations and if you need something let me know. I will keep you in mind regarding upcoming projects.

Jamesg my apologies regarding the solo not being loud enough. I am going to remix everything soon.

Lynn Thanks for that. I feel the same way about your music. I listen to everything you post with excitement.

Janet. I sold Insurance a long time ago for a while. I was told not to umm quit my day Job....OK what ever that means. I work nights...anyways this section of the guitar course is called Advanced Guitar Lessons. The first two levels deal with flashy guitar tricks. Things like 7 different ways to get harmonics from a guitar. The next level deals with composition and music theory as applied to guitar. and the next level covers alternate tunings. Over 30 different tunings for guitar.

These concepts are a ways above the beginning stages. I also have a beginning Guitar program, but I thought I would record the advanced stuff first because there is less of that stuff out there. There is a bunch of beginning lessons on you tube. When I started my market research I discovered that there was less of the advanced stuff that I teach out there. Soon all the Lesson videos will be released and available for download.

The Band 19 I am sorry to say this but I am all out of lotion and conditioner, but I will make you a deal. You send me the ummm lotion. and I will send you some of that hair in a can that you spray on your head. That should hold you over until I am ready to donate. But if you spray yourself some extra  long locks the supply won't last as long....
