Acoustic track

Hi Folks,

The guitarist in my acoustic trio came over to the studio with a new song and I recorded his first and only take. I am interested in any feedback on the (simple) production and the tune in general. I recorded it using X2 with a Rode NT1a on vocals and SE Electronics SE4 on the guitar. I added some BReverb on each track and used a little vocal strip.

Thanks,

    You know, that is a very well written tune. Not my usual style, but I like it. I am not sure I would have mixed it the same way, but this has a nice, sort of old school "folk" feel to it that works well.

    The song is terrific, and the recording was so well done that you sounded like you were in the room with me.  Songs like this never go out of style.

    you know what...this is my favorite track I've heard on this forum. It's a bit of a masterpiece in my opinion. Did you serve, or are you just able to write evocatively about this subject matter?

    Hi folks,

    Digi2ns - Thanks for the feedback;

    twisted6s - Appreciate the listen;

    foxwolfen - I tried to mix it like it sounded in the room, but more than happy for other suggestions;

    James1213 - Thanks for listening;

    Lynn - Glad to have your thoughts;

    daryl1968 - Thanks;

    Warrenlee - I will pass this on to the artist. I just set up the mics and hit the REC button. The songwriter hasn't served, but I believe he used some experiences of a relative for inspiration. He will be pleased with your comments.

    All the best,

    Well done. I didn't know Rode NT1 could sound so good on vocals. In my experience it sounds harsher but you captured a nice, warm vocal sound with it.

    It was not a criticism at all. I think your take on it worked very well. It was more of a comment on my own limitations. Sometimes it takes somebody doing something different to help oneself grow.

    Very nice.

    This is a prime example of the perfect guitar/vocal take to show off the simplicity of a beautiful song.

    It reminds me a lot of  John Prine.  I used to cover a bunch of JP's stuff back in the day.

    Modern folk.... really enjoyed that.

    GREAT song/recording.  The mix on my end has warmth and sounds like your sitting in my studio.  The lyrics and chord progression is giving me a bit of Shawn Mullins vibe.  KUDOS!

    Nice. Simple, honest and straight from the heart. I don't hear much of this music anymore - this is a reminder to me of how good it can be. Tell your guy he did real good.
