EZ Drummer Comp Room

Probably an obvious answer here, but I don't see this addressed in the EZ Drummer manual.  On the mixer, there is a fader for Room and a fader for Comp Room.

Is Comp Room the same as room, except that it is subjected to some sort of preset compression?

Thanks.

I have EZdrummer and I don't this fader at all. I take it it isn't the standard version you are running?

Comp Room only shows up if the EZX has the samples for it.  It is basically a compressed room mix for the Bonham sound lovers.

Yes, it's the room mic put through a compressor that you can mix with the room mic to give you a form of parallel compression.

    Grum,
The mixer is different on each kit.
But I would guess that's what "comp room" means.
In Superior at least one of the kits has an "1176" snare channel.
So there you are, Nashville and Vintage rock have an 1176 compressed room channel.

Hardly for just the Bonham sound lovers.  Using it with the room mic gives you the opportunity to add a subtle or not so subtle form of parallel compression.

If you "whack it up to 10" then your average Bonham fan will be happy, but you can use it more subtly.  Parallel compression, particularly on a drum buss, is common in most forms of music.

Thanks, guys.  I am running what I guess is the standard version to which I have added Nashville and Vintage kits.

I got EZ Drummer when it was on sale for some ridiculously low price and added two kits.

Same here.  Do you just use it for that Bonham sound?  No, me neither.  That was the point I was making.

Hi, Konradh, how are you finding the Nashville?  I love it.  Especially the toms.  I don't have the vintage, but will have to invest sometime.

Hey, jb101.  I love the Nashville kit.  It is a superb acoustic collection.  My favorite snare in the real world is the Black Beauty snare.  The Nashville kit sample of the Black Beauty is more "snarey" than you would expect:  lots of bottom mic snare rattle.  That is good though because I don't have another snare sample that sounds quite like it.

The toms, kicks, and cymbals are fantastic.

I wish EZ Drummer had a way to tighten or loosen hi-hats, but Session Drummer doesn't have that feature, either.

The vintage kit is understandably a bit more muffled sounding but it is good for a number of things.

Hey, konradh, glad you're enjoying EZDrummer.  I've found the Nashville Brush kit very usable too.

I also have the classic, which is great - I particularly like the snare.  Took me a while to get the concert toms sounding how I wanted, but love them now.  You get three different kits with it too.

I also have the Claustrophobic and Twisted kits that I only brought for about a  tenner each on offer from Time and Space.  I have used twisted  many times as I like strange sounds, but Claustrophobic really surprised me.  Didn't think I'd use it much, but it's great.  It really cuts through a mix.  The examples on their site do not do it justice.  On its own it doesn't sound that good, but in a mix it's killer.  I've used it in several different styles from Prog Rock to Pop and it has fit in.

I like the look of the new Rock Solid, but quite fancy the Jazz, Funk, Vintage, Americana and Latin kits.  As I warned you on a previous thread, the EZX are addictive.

OK, bro, you owe me some money since I will now have to buy The Classic expansion.    I overlooked that originally but I checked it out based on your comments and there are some good sounding kits there.  Actually, I appreciate the suggestion—thanks.

I am still amazed there are no Ringo MIDI files bundled with the Vintage kit.  I can make them myself, if I want, but it would have been natural to have a few liverpool grooves in there just for fun.

UPDATE:  Just ordered The Classic via electronic delivery from Sweetwater.  For only $39 USD, it was hard to resist.

I can't give you the money, I need every penny for more EZX...

Hope you like it.  It's also nice to have the four toms instead of three.  Those Sweetwater deals do make them hard to resist.

Let me know what you think.  Have fun.  You can never have enough drums..
