This is from the Cakewalk site's system requirements section for X2: Windows 7 or Windows 8* (32 and 64-bit). XP and Vista are no longer officially supported. Future updates will not be compatible or install on XP and Vista as they are no longer officially supported. Bob Bone

I haven't installed X2a. I think I'm going to get the Windows 7 upgrade first. I can get it at Walmart for $106.

I installed it last night on Vista64 and it appears to be working just fine. I'll still upgrade to win8 after the holidays just to bring my machine up to the current requirements.

Another report of a sucessful Vista installation here http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=2740672 I want to hold off on a O/S upgrade as intend getting new hardware next year. The Win 8 upgrade is cheap enough, I just don't fancy reinstalling everything, and then doing it all again a few months later on a new PC.

Glyn, sort of related to what you are saying; I have the Win 8 upgrade purchased but I am holding off for a while to install. I thought I would wait for all of the drivers and bugs to be worked out before I attempt the change over. The PC that I bought from Best Buy a few years back came with Vista 64, but I don't believe that I have the serial numbers anywhere. At least, I have not located them. I believe that means I am going to have to install over Vista and reinstall all of my programs. I am also in the process of getting all of those serial numers organized so that I don't lose anything. There may be easy ways to do all of this, but I am not very techy with computers. This is still a very usable machine though, Phenom X4, 8 gig ram, 500 HD.

A lot of the store-bought computers have stickers on the bottoms or back of the chassis that have the Windows Product Key on them. They are sort of green, and maybe 2 inches by 1.5 inches, approximately. If you can find that sticker, you can re-use that product key to re-install Vista. There are also frequently recovery partitions on many of these store-bought computers, and you may be able to boot up to a partition that will load the factory original image back onto the computer. Just a thought, Bob Bone.

If you wait for "all the bugs" to be worked out you have a long wait. Windows 8 was shipped with very few bugs. Just check out Windows 8 forums. I have not run into a bug in Windows 8. I don't see a lot of users complaining about bugs in 8. Your only concern should be about drivers and even there its a nice situation overall. Most Windows 7 drivers will work in Windows 8. However the install for them could be a problem.
