X2a update problem

So I am apparently the odd one. I downloaded the 2a patch and installed it. I then opened X2 and opened a project I had been working on just before doing the update. The Transport controls were balky, it would take two or three mouse clicks to start the playback. No audio output. The MIDI instrument tracks would show activity on the meters but no audio was output. The audio tracks showed no activity at all on the meters, even though the waveforms were in the tracks.

I checked the preferences and they were all the same as before the update. I insured that no tracks were muted or soloed.  I tried another project, same results. I closed X2 and reopened as administrator - same results.  As I needed to finish some work on the current project, I did a system restore to before the update. Afterwards everything worked as it should, or at least as I expected.

Most here seem quite pleased with the patch. I suspect that I am overlooking something simple, but I am a bit reluctant to reinstall the update until I have some notion of what that might be. Any suggestions are appreciated.  Thanks.
