Touch optimizations and W7

I haven't upgraded to X2 yet.  Just been busy.  It occurred to me that the touch optimizations may be lost on me because I'm running W7.   I have used Sonar X1 with my touch screeen monitor in W7 and it was "not ready for prime time".  Are the improvements the bakers made ONLY for W8?
