VS-700 build quality

I have always been impressed with the VS-700C build quality. It feels very solid. The metal case is rock solid and feels pretty indestructable. I'm curious how it compares to other mid level Control surfaces. Things like the Avid Artist Series (Control, Transport, expanded fader unit). The Artist series looks nice but it appears to be plastic. Has anyone on this forum tried both?  I haven't found one to look at in person yet. How do the faders and knobs compare?

Dont know about the Artist Control but I had the Digi 003 Factory desk before I moved to Sonar and the VS700.

The 003 was a nasty big lump of plastic. Same with the old comand 8.

Yeah the 700 is one of the more solid units around... I've tried a few other variations and the 700 is definitely built like a tank. I'm sure part of that is due to an impression resulting from the ergonomics of the thing but for sure it has all the Roland tank qualities about it.
