Plum Blossoms
This is my first post on this forum. Everyone's recordings sound so good. Anyway here is an instrumental rock song I wrote using sonar X2. I hope you like it. I'm not opposed to criticism either. Thanks https://soundcloud.com/ch...imself/plum-blossoms-1

I love it dude! The production and arrangement is fantastic. Very nice guitar work too. Is that S-gear? Sounds great.

Chandler, welcome to the forum. This is a heck of a debut! The chord progression and arrangement beneath the stellar guitar work are magical. I also listened to the next tune and liked it a lot. Let's see more of your "illusions".

Thank you for listening. I'm glad both of you enjoyed it. clintmartin - Yes it is s-gear. I can't recommend it highly enough. I saw in another thread that you were looking for a software amp sim. There is a 15 day free trial. If you like it I'd pick it up before the new year. It's going from $75 to $100. Lynn- Thank you for the kind words. It's good to see someone else from KCMO on here. Although I live in Japan now, KC will always be my home.

Welcome to the forum. I am a very blunt and straight forward person and you being new does not prevent me from being me. So... do you hate your drummer? Why did you put him so far back? I think you need to first dry up the drums completely, get the tone and levels right, then ensure you match the effects with the rest of the tracks. The composition and arrangement the song seems pretty good. But. While, the intro guitar tone was great, the rest of the instrumentation does not do it justice. It sort of becomes "hard rock meets pickup lounge" (meaning I find there is a hint of kitsch). You appear to have the skills, so I look forward to the progress if you decide to work further on this. - Shad

Very nice tone.... That is some good stuff there.... welcome to the forum.... I'm listening on small computer speakers, so I might be missing it.... but the low end seems a bit weak on this system. Just a small nit......everything else is good. well done

I'm often impressed when we get some new members, because them seem to be increasly good at recording and mixing. And of course the level of musical talent on this forum is staggering good. And this production is no different. Very nice sound! Welcome. Daryl

foxwolfen - I don't have anything against my drummer. In fact I paid $50 for him when he was on sale. The reason the drums are reverbed up is because other drummers told me to put more reverb on the snare and there were complaints about the dryness of the tone. About the "hard rock meets pickup lounge", I don't really know what to do about that. Just the way I wrote it/the instruments I used. I might do some small tweaks to the song in the future, but for the most part it's done. I have other songs I'm working on, so I don't want to spend too much more time on this now. In the future who knows. Anyway, thanks for the feedback, I appreciate people's honest opinions. Guitarhacker - Thank you. I haven't listened to it on really small speakers, so you might be right. When I listen to it the bass isn't too bad, but I should check it on smaller speakers to make sure it is translating properly. Thanks for the feedback. darylcrowley - Thank you very much for the kind words. I agree that this board has tons of great musicians, mixers, composers, songwriters, etc. Thanks for listening. Warrenlee - I glad you enjoyed it. I can't write lyrics, so unfortunately there won't be any unless someone else wants to write them. In the future who knows what will happen though. Thank you for the kind words.

Mixing tip #1: Never listen to a drummer (which is the same advice one would give about drummers and song writing).

My fave part of this track were the guitars: Great playing and tones. The bass sounded boomy on some notes, but as no one else has reported that, it might be my speakers that are the cause of that. The arrangement is good and keeps the interest. Good one.

Thanks for the comments. I don't hear the boomy bass, but I'll check it out on other systems to make sure. I'm glad you liked the arrangement. I'm actually working on an orchestral piece now and that's really putting my skills to the test.
