NOOB ALERT! Unable to get Sonar VS control
Sorry about the stoopid questions, but I have two problems with the VS-100 and have spent a couple hours reading manuals, online forums and watching videos to no avail. I hope my questions are easy ones. I am unable to get the control surface to work on the VS-100. I do not have an SD card installed as I want to use it strictly as a DAW. I also do not have MIDI control at all -- just USB connection. I should be able to use the control surface via USB, correct? Each time I open Sonar VS, I get a prompt to setup MIDI and I click "Continue With No MIDI Input/Output." Under Options > Controllers/Surfaces, I have VS-100 selected and have no options under Input and Output Port. ACT and WAI are selected. Thank you for your help.

Welcome to the forum. I also do not have MIDI control at all -- just USB connection
The MIDI control is through the USB connection - no problem here. Did you follow the instructions on page 20 of the manual? If the V-S 100 was plugged in and the drivers installed when you opened Sonar you should see both the MIDI (V-S 100) and the CONTROL (V-S 100) from the MIDI Devices dialog in preferences. If you don't see both of these there is a problem with the order that you started things or the installation of the drivers. 1) install drivers 2) plug in V-S 100 (into USB) 3) start Sonar 4) add the control surface in Sonar

...and I'm able to get inputs to work in Reaper. Unable to get Control Surface to work, however, in Reaper... tried Univ. and Other... neither worked.

Hey Pullmanite, check out this thread http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2303041 , could be helpful. About the line breaks, sounds like you're using Mozilla firefox, (like me). The Cake forum doesn't play nice with FF. Use IE if you want line breaks and quoting, etc. HTH.

It looks like there are a couple of semantic problems with your question. What you are referring to as your "Control Surface" is generally called the "Console View." Your Control Surface is the V-Studio 100. You aren't able to select the audio inputs for your V-S 100 because you don't have a "Playback Timing Master" set in the Preferences->Audio->Driver Settings. Set the record and playback timing masters on the Driver Settings panel to both be the VS-100. That should allow you to select it as the audio input device. On the very bottom of the "Console View" one of the tracks (or busses) should have a color bar that matches the WAI (Where Am I) color in your MIDI settings. When you change the slider on your V-S 100, this should change to reflect the move that you made on the V-S 100. Conversely, if you change the slider on the screen it should move the slider on the V-S 100. A Glen

Closed the project, started a new one and even though the settings in Sonar are set the same, I now can't get control between Sonar and the VS-100. Same thing seems to keep happening. Uninstalled the software and drivers and trying again. If that doesn't work, it looks like I need to put a call in to tech support. Thanks for your help.

control between Sonar and the VS-100 I have been having a bit of an issue where the MIDI settings for the control surface don't stick. Eventually they do, so it must be a step that I'm missing somewhere. It is important that things happen in the correct order when powering up. Make sure that the V-S 100 is powered up and plugged in before starting Sonar. Check to see that the vs-100 is still available and selected in the MIDI preferences Check to see that the control-100 is still selected in the control surface input and output These went away on me several times early on when using the V-Studio 100. They seem to be staying put for now however.

A fresh uninstall / reinstall seemed to do the trick and after several tests, things are still working. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks again for your help.
