Any good free or cheap GUITAR sound VSTs ?

I am looking for a good cheap VST which has a nice electric guitar sound (fuzz box, overdirve sound) .

I am willing to spend a little money but not a whole bunch...

Are there any out there ?

(ps:  I got (on the cheap) a program called MAGIX which is not very good so I rarely use it, but it had a decent sounding electric guitar VST called Vita.  This won't load up with Sonar.)

Sonar Home 6 XL (32-bit), Toshiba Sat L500 INTEL I5-430M 2.26-2.53GHZ , Win7 , 4GB, 500GB, MOTU Ethno & Symphonic, Rapture 1.2.1, Studiologic 990Xp, UM-1EX midi interface, UA-1EX usb sound cad

FreeAmp3 would be something to check out. Also Amplitube3 Free.
Go through the websites of amp sim manufacturers. Most of them have some free tasters.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

Might want to check out Amplifikation Kreme, which is good for heavy guitar sounds or their Vermillion which is more crunch oriented. Kuassa.com

    Shred:

Its free. Actually right now I am working on some rhythm guitars and I have quite a few guitar plugins and this one is giving me the best tone so far.

It sounds bad but it is not all full on distortion. It is quite versatile in what it can do.

Thanks -- I saw the little youtube video on their site and it sounded good.
However, I downloaded it and tried to get Sonar to recognise it but it would not.  I think my Sonar is a little temperamental when it comes to some VSTs.  It seems to recognise about 8 out of 10,  but 2 out of ten either don't show up or it crashes Sonar.

Thanks to everyone else who suggested other ones like Shred'  I'll check them out.

For guitar, try AAS (Applied Acoustic Systems) Electric. For amps/effects, try Scuffham S-Gear.

+1 for A|A|S Strum Electric (I've got the electric and acoustic bundle). They sound even better when put through something ike Guitar Rig or TH2.

Ain't cheap though. But I get fed up looking at the sample based guitar synths and having to download massive sample libraries. The A|A|S synths are based on physical modelling and therefore take up less space on the old hard drive, but admittedly take more processor power.
