SP2Xa is not for XP?

I heard Cakewalk rep. saying that next update will not be supported on XP. I thought, "Yeah, ok, as always...", thinking, it is not "supported" but will install, as did X2 on my computer. However- it did not. This is a problem I have with it: why would X2 install but the fix won't? To me- if you took my money, the version should not need any fix, and if it needs a fix, the fix should be installable same way the X2. Why sell not finished product with bugs that needs fixes? It is like selling a car without the tires, saying that it will be delivered later and then telling that tires can not be delivered to your zip code. The software was not finished, it needed fixes, it was sold to me, and now fix can not be installed.

vladasyn . . . the warnings were there in the system requirements for Sonar X2, as you noticed, no more "support" for Win XP.

Now with the Sonar X2a patch, in order to fix certain issues, X2a upgrade included some Windows Operating System tweaking.

All software companies must eventually follow the beat put down by Microsoft, if they want to continue to dance.

Are there any particular issues you were having with X2, that would have required the X2a patch to be applied ?

It doesn't install because it won't work in XP. There are some new programming libraries required, which only work in Vista (not supported but works), Windows 7 and 8. If they allowed you to install in XP, it would probably mess up your system. I don't know that for sure, because I haven't tried it, but if they say it won't work, I trust they know what they're talking about. Keep in mind, XP is now four versions behind the latest Windows. Just like Win95 and Win98 before it, XP will be phased out and no longer work because new software requires new OS features.

Just my thoughts on the topic... believe me, I would love it if I could just buy one version of Windows and use that forever.  I still keep XP on a couple of older machines because I don't want to give up access to some older software applications, so I understand your frustration.

may be they should change terminology. "Not Supported" to me means, there i no guaranty it will work- go ahead and try- we not responsible for outcomes. "Not Installable" is the right term for the situation.

I sure do not need "touch support", but some nice fixes were made that could be offered as a fix in different package, separate from Win 8 related upgrades. I have read the list of fixes- I did not know the product they sold me had that many issues.

I think they should of make 2X non-installable for XP in the first place and not take the money for it.

    *facepalm*

C'mon, man. Isn't XP like 15 years old now? I loved that OS as well but it's time to move on. Win 7 is great.

And it's not like you'd get your money back anyway if it didn't install. You have to read the minimum system requirements. Nowhere does it says X2 will work on XP.

Should I assume I can install it on Windows 95? How about DOS?

    Common sense, bro.

My computer is 8 y. old. It was $4000 workstation. I learned one thing: do not spend that much on a computer. I thought I will build it one time and it will work for next 6-8 years. It did. But from the begining it was not perfect and needed more updates, upgrades and such, and then 8 years later it got worse blaming it on legacy OS, but when it was new OS, it never worked to keep it in that state.

It is not supported with XP at all. One look at the system requirements shows this.
Think yourself lucky you got it to even run :-)
Time to upgrade then or stick with X1
