Sonar exclusive song getting airplay on Northwest Country Radio

http://soundcloud.com/pamjahn/how-many-more-miles

This was a project we just finished with a northwest country artist that was done completely in Sonar and is getting regional northwest country radio airplay. I wrote the song for her to sing and then got roped into singing on it as a duet...so be kind lol!!!

For a country tune it had some nice chord changes in it, and I like how no dogs were run over, nobody was in prison, and nobody saw Elvis in the 3rd verse.  :)

I REALLY liked the acoustic intro - I wish I could record things that cleanly.  (I am a keyboard player who also plays some guitar, just not very well).

    Anyways, yeah - great work.

You should be very proud of that work. The female solo was brilliant. I really like her voice. You sound great and know a thing or two about vocals. The engineering was also outstanding. Not sure why anyone would call that sound commercial. But I don't hear much songs of that type here to compare. But they could mean it sounds good. I did get a Seals & Croft meet Crosby, Stills and Nash out of it. I suppose they are commercial. BTW I like both. There was a nice hint of blue grass in there too.

All I know is the song is a great one and it is done very well.  All you need to do is keep on doing what you are doing.

    Very nice indeed Steven.
But do tell us, Sonar X2?
Somehow I think the studio is running X1d...

    Tom,

Sonar X1d it is! Didnt have the X2 upgrade out at the beginning of the project yet and there was no way we would have done a major upgrade in the middle of production.

X1d has really been the most stable of all the builds we have had to date. I hope that X2 yeilds the same productions stability.

From the variety of posts I've read so far, I am a bit hesitant...keeping fingers crossed

I'm working in X2a, liking the workflow, but its not quite "there" yet.
Had a couple little "niggles" today; lanes issue and a soft synth issue.
No way I'd use it for a client yet...

Excellent song, performance, and production.  Great job and I wish you the best of success.

(Some of the comments here gave me a laugh: obviously we have some folks who haven't listened to country in quite a while!)

    Stratman70, Joel77, sharke, konradh,

Thanks for the comments guys, I really appreciate it.

Tom, Thanks for the heads up on the 'niggles'! I am always a bit cautious about a major upgrade that includes actual clients before we have a chance to really test it in production.

I have learned the hard way that most new software acts great under perfect conditions ( immaculate computer, DAW only plugs, methodical keyboard input, ect ) .....

..angry clients about a lost take while simultaneously setting a 64 ounce big gulp on the keyboard and pressing an unknown variety of keystrokes,  inserting plugs from ANY body else, looping takes, newly incompatible plugs that used to be compatible and included in previous versions, ect.... are a whole different matter completely lol!!!!

&nb Not trying to be a butthead but you guys make it sound like it is an amazing feat that something done in sonar made it on the radio. I mean this is professional software right? Now I'd be surprised if someone's fostex 4 track mix made it on the air but isn't this what sonar is suppose to do? It's like telling everyone that your snowblower blew snow.

xxxsoundxxx, Of course you are right, but I think the reason is that we hear so much about large facilities using ProTools that some users like to affirm that Sonar productions are getting air time and sales.

I agree that no one would ever be able to listen to a professional recording and say, "Oh that is ProTools," or "That was made with Sonar," or "Obviously a Cubase production."  Something I record sounds totally different than almost anything else, but that is not Sonar's fault (or credit).
