Pops occuring after X2a upgrade
I just upgraded to X2a from X1 a few days ago and I'm getting lots of pops. The pops are not in the recorded material I'm working on which was recently recorded in X1. I'm using the ASIO driver, 24-bit, 64-bit Double Precision checked. Samplng rate is 48000. ASIO latency reported at 6.9 msec. Note that clicking on the "ASIO Panel..." button does not open the control window as expected. This is the exact set-up I've been using for years with earlier versions of Sonar at 64-bit.

Hi Hermit If I do not disable my WLAN card through Device manager, it causes the same thing. As for the ASIO panel, mine does the same but isnt an issue as far as I can see, Not sure if it sets everything automatically when you initially select ASIO mode or not. I notice thats when I loose the option to go into. I just make sure what I have Sonar set to matches what I have set in MAudio's control panel

I too have noticed on various versions of SONAR that the button to open the ASIO driver control panel does not work on my setups. I just open it outside of SONAR and make the needed adjustments.

Another thing to watch for is your buffer settings in preferences, Bump them up and see if it goes away and then work your way back down to a workable level Ive jumped some of mine to 1024 working back to 512 or 256

If you disable FX (using the global disable button) do the pops go away? While you verified your bit depth, did you check your file render size as well to ensure it is not 32 bit?

I am experienceing the same thing after updating to X2a, I posted: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2743032 a days ago. Last night I found that if I froze BFD2 it stopped while at 128K buffer size, didn't have to do this previously. As I increase buffer size, the pops and cracks go away, basically the only time I get them is at 128k buffer size. Which is what I track at because there is no latency. So I have been freezing several tracks while tracking, which is inconvenient and didn't have to do that before. Another interesting thing, I restored back to X2 using system restore and the pops and cracks are still there. The only change which was made was the X2a update. I did go back thru the services and shut off / disabled anything that I thought was not required for the machine to operate. however Windows 7 has so many services, Its hard to determine what is required for the machine to run. side note: I wish there was a version of windows available which is optimized for recording or at least a bare bones version with the most minimal services / apps for a machine to operate. I probably didn't help out any, but just letting you know I am experiencing that same issue.

That was helpful. I increased my playback buffer and I'm only hearing a few pops now and then. Thanks for the responses.

I started getting some crackling after adding Ozone to my master bus. One of two things helped, 1) Increasing my buffer (I was runnung at 128). 2) Disabling Ozone. I know there use to be a lot of info on configuring XP for audio on the internet, has any come across or know where one could info on Window 7 audio configuring? Bob

I had pops and crackles when creating mixdowns after reworking an old project which contained a Korg M1 Digital soft synth. I still haven't sorted it out after hours of trying. That synth needs re-licencing after upgrading to Win 8. I'm thinking that there may be some kind of timer running on it and causing the problem Working in new projects with imported audio is fine. But I haven't tested a mixdown yet. My buffer is 256. Q660 Win 8 32 bit, 2 Meg

Webby Well here I am answering my own question Check out this links http://www.focusrite.com/answerbase/en/article.php?id=1071 Bob No Bob! You are mislead and misguided. Many tweaks are absolutely wrong tweaks for Windows 7 and Windows 8. Black Viper tweaks are a joke! 4. Set processor scheduling to "Background services" This will improve the performance of your audio drivers on your computer. To do this: - In control panel select "system" - Go to "Advanced system settings" and then the "Performance" tab - Set processor scheduling as "Background Services" - Click "Apply" then "OK" 5. Disable Windows Firewall, anti-virus and spyware software These should all be disabled to ensure that no interferences occur during audio recording or playback and to ensure that maximum resources are available. To remain secure while your firewall and antivirus disabled, it is advisable to temporarily disconnect from any internet connections when working with audio. Advanced optimisation: If you wish to optimise your system further, or you are using a system that is particularly lacking in resources you can follow the tips below for advanced optimisation. Disable Visual effects The visual features in Windows 7 can use resources that could otherwise help to improve audio performance. As a start, it is good idea to disable some of the visual features by doing the following: - Press start and in the search box type: "SystemPropertiesPerformance" and press enter - On the visual effects tab select "custom" - Untick: "Animate windows when minimising and maximising" to help prevent glitches when minimising and maximising. You can also experiment with disabling other visual effects in the custom list to see how they improve audio performance. - Once finished, press "OK" If you wish to optimise your Windows 7 graphics for the best performance use the "Adjust for best performance". Although improving computer performance, this will make your Windows 7 appear a lot less aesthetically pleasing. Disable Windows services One way in which you can make more resources available to improve audio performance, is to disable unnecessary Windows 7 services as these use valuable resources. The following site has a comprehensive guide to the services running on Windows 7 and helps locate the services that are safe to disable: Windows 7 Service Configurations by Black Viper If you are still experiencing audio performance problems after optimising your computer for audio, please contact the support team by using the "contact us" link at the top right-hand corner of this
