They might stand firm in the cold light of day, but when the debate gets heated enough their leadership will melt-down and any argument they may have had will end up being watered down until the point they are making eventually evaporates. Besides I thought they were all complaining because of the smell of carrots they were constantly experiencing.

I don't see anything actually breaking. Potentially melting, IMO, is rather different from breaking.
