Runtime errors after X2a updates

Hi guys,

I installed the SONAR X2a updates for 32bit and 64bit. After installing these (which included the new MS C++ Redistributable 2012 packages) SONAR is crashing when using bitbridged plugins. They don't load or bitbridge hangs. SONAR also crashed/hangs on closing. KORE 2 standalone is now crashing with runtime error as well (R6025 pure virtual function call). So, after installing these updates, I've experienced a lot of crashing/hanging, which usually never happens. I haven't been able to test x2a much. But, I did notice a problem with one project where there is weird graphics gliching when soloing tracks - when the solo button is pressed on a track, the track will expand and then contract, graphically, really quickly - if that makes sense. In another project, I noticed audio artifacts, but SONAR crashed before I could troubleshoot. Projects started in x1 seemed to open fine in x1, but hang when opening in x2a.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm posting this while the computer does a restore point, but it's only including MS x64 2012, not MS x86 2012 or x2a 32bit. I suppose I'll try uninstalling SONAR X2 and the remaining MS x86 2012 package, and reinstall.

Thanks.

Are the expanding soloed tracks in a group? Even if they were that would only explain expanding if auto zoom was on. They wouldn't contract unless you went to a non grouped track. Just a thought

Can't advise about your other problems. Beyond my pay grade!

The soloed tracks are a part of a Kontakt4 folder of tracks. It expands as if using auto zoom. I haven't been able to investigate this further - SONARx2 hangs or reports "not responding" - or BitBridge. Other programs are doing this as well, now. (KORE2 standalone) So, it looks like it might have something to do with the MS runtime package - or an install error with that. SONAR X2 has been really great, and stable, so far.

Hi Scott, this all sounds very similar to what I had and all I did was apply the X2a patch!

I had crashes in mfc110u.dll and others and also the R6025 pure virtual function call ( which appears to be bad entries in the registry telling it where dll's are etc.)

In total this is what I did to get back to a fully working system, some of the steps may be coincidental.

It might be worth trying step 7 first as this is the least destructive and may cure some of the issues.

    1) Uninstall Sonar
    2) Uninstall all of the VC++ redistributables
    3) Update windows several times, install all the critical and recommended updates until it says you are up to date.
    4) Download and install the 2012 VC++ redistributable from microsoft site (unless the update already installed it)
    5) Reinstall SonarX2
    6) Apply the X2a patch
    7) Download and run CCcleaner.exe from pirisoft ,specifically the registry clean, run it several times until it says there are no errors.

After that lot my system now appears to be stable although I still have a support case open just in case something comes to light in the next couple of days.

Quick report. I'm doing some work on this now, starting with step 7. CCleaner is reporting that Registry Cleaner > Missing Shared DLL is missing 13 Microsoft.NET dlls and surprisingly, 2 Cakewalk dlls.

    What I've done so far.

    1. Created a new system restore point. (SONAR X2a 32bit is still on there at this point, and the previous restore point only rolled back as far as uninstalling SONAR X2a 64bit).

    2. Used CCleaner to fix the Missing Shared DLLs, Unused File Extensions, ActiveX and Class Issues, and Type Libraries (it seemed to do this by deleting them).

    3. Uninstalled Microsoft VC++ Redistributable packages, including ADL(?) updates, for 2005, 2008, 2010, and the 2012 (x86) that was left over from the previous restore point.

    4. Ran the Windows Update, but there were none, other than language packages.

    5. Downloaded and installed Microsoft VC++ Redistributable 2012 x86 and x64.

    6. Now going to check Windows Update again, and then reinstall the SONAR X2a update for 64bit - since X2a for 32bit didn't get uninstalled in the system restore rollback.

    7. Will then test the system and software. If the errors and hanging/crashing is still present, I will start from Step 1 and completely uninstall and reinstall/update SONAR.

Still testing - starting with KORE2 standalone (I still love it), then going to test SONAR X2. One thing I did notice already, though - is that the HTML message editor for the forum now works! I was previously writing HTML code with br and em tags! Ha. I'm now guessing that those Microsoft files (VC++ 2005, 2008, 2010, and 2012) along with the registry errors were part, if not all of the issue; as you said, Shambler. So, it seems the 2012 VC++ installer included with X2a might have pushed it over the edge - the Microsoft clutter on my system, that is.

Thank you for the help, Shambler! Hopefully the problems are solved. Will report back.

Is this essentially a Sonar X2a problem???  I cannot shutdown any project I open without it completely hanging.

This problem does not affect all users of X2a. I know that I am not the only one that had no issues installing or using X2a Producer 64bit (not claiming the program is bug free though).

There seem to be issues on some systems.

I was in no way expecting any problems, my system has been pretty much solid as a rock throughout Sonar8,X1 and X2.

It was only the X2a update which brought everything to a grinding halt i.e.

    crash on opening a project.
    crash on inserting a softsynth.
    crash on changing a screenset.
    crash on closing a project.

Yesterday it did not crash and I used it for 3 hours, I'm hoping it has settled down again.

That's exactly what I'm experiencing. Hanging/crashing on loading or closing a project. Dragging a project file from windows explorer will cause a hang. I haven't got much further than trying to open and close projects at this point.

Update on the VC++ package reinstalls, Shambler.

After I uninstalled all of the VC++ 2005, 2008, 2010, and 2012 packages, I went to the MS website and downloaded the VC++ 2012 (w Update 1); which I think is what is included with the X2a update. I ran the 2012 packages for x86 and x64, but SONAR X2 still hangs on loading projects. So, I tried to open a project in X1 - which was successful before uninstalling the VC++ packages, but, now SONAR X1 says that it's missing mfc100u.dll and will not run without it. This appears to be a part of the 2010 VC++ package - so I guess SONAR X1 and X2 shipped with the 2010 packages - and these are needed.

I dug through MS downloads website to find the latest VC++ packages. The original VC++ downloads seem to be still available; however MS has downloads which are from later dates and include security updates - i.e. SP1. MS seems to address this confusion with a webpage that lists out the latest VC++ packages.

    Latest Supported Visual C++ Downloads:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2019667
"Because there have been several downloads related to VC++ over the years, it can be somewhat
difficult to locate which service pack, security patch or redistributable package is the most
current version.  This article is designed to provide links to the latest versions of these,
saving you the time of searching and comparing dates."

I'm going to download and install the 2010 SP1 packages to see if X1 will run again. If not, I'll uninstall/reinstall X1 and X2, to see how that goes. I'm guessing since a few of us are having these issues; perhaps I'll leave this computer as it is for now and wait to hear what the bakers might have to say. It might be a Microsoft issue, though.

    Hi Shambler,

I just installed VC++ 2010 SP1, and SONAR X1 will start again, now; but, X2a is still hanging on opening projects.

VC++ 2012 and 2010 SP are the only ones I have installed. I guess I might reinstall X2 1.0. Hmm.

I also just found these in the list of installed programs:

Two that say 2005, One that says 2008, two that say 2010, one that says 2012 plus further down the list two pace anti-piracy VC++ redis.

I'm going to research what should be there and if nothing comes up I'll do a complete SonarX2 uninstall as mentioned in another thread including deleting registry keys.

[edit] I've now done a complete uninstall, deleting all registry keys associated with cakewalk and uninstalling X2 then deleting any directories left behind.

I've now reinstalled everything (almost!) so we will see what happens now.

I simply re-named the bitbridge dll file (so sonar wouldn't be able to access it) as this is what was causing my system to hang, and VIOLA...No hang ups!!!  But also no 32 bit plugins (all my UAD plugins) Consistantly it's bitbridge that's causing sonar to no longer respond for me:(

That's what I did last night, uninstalled SONAR X2 and deleted the X2 registry keys. I left X1 and the other Cakewalk products installed - and their keys. I plan to reinstall X2 today and hope that it will work better.

Revsnd; that sounds like what's happening here, too. I use KORE2 32bit and UAD 32bit in many projects, and those projects seem to be the ones that are hanging. Or, if I can get them to run for a few minutes, bitbridge soon becomes unresponsive. That was a good idea to try renaming the .dll.

I'll chime back in, soon. Thanks for the updates guys!

    Good News!!!!
I just re-istalled the X2a patch again, before I was going to do a complete re-install, and it completely fixed the problem here. I can't seem to make it crash, or hang at all right now.
Funny thing though...This time when I re-did the X2a patch one of those Microsoft V++ install windows popped up and said it was intalling.  That DEFINATELY did not happen the first time I ran the patch.  Any ideas on that one?

Hi guys! Glad to hear it, revsnd! The 2012 VC++ installed with the update over here. I'm not sure what might have caused that - although I vaguely remember something similar happening in the past with an update for another product - where the included MS installer didn't run during install. Good news here, too - so far! I reinstalled SONAR X2 and X2a after uninstalling/reinstalling the latest VC++ 2005, 2008, 2010, and 2012 packages - and after cleaning the registry with CCleaner (per Shambler's advice). All seems to be working much better now. There still seem to be some BitBridge issues, but that might have had to do with the plugins I was using. I worked with X2a for hours yesterday without any major issues. Thanks again for the help, guys! Hopefully we all have it figured out now. I'll post again if there's any changes or issues. Cheers!

So Shambler/Scott J, from the above; this is what you have basically done to fix the issues with both X2 install and then 'a' upgrade?

I ask because I am having virtually the same issues althought my problems started after I first installed the 'a" upgrade.

And now after having re-installed X2  (no upgrade yet) I don't have the RMix plugin. And I'm looking for just what is the issue.

    Hi Del,

    Sorry for a late reply.

The problems appeared after I first installed the Xa update, too.

That list is what I did.

Funny thing is, I thought the problem was fixed; but now I'm getting repeatable errors, again, tonight. R6025 - pure vitual calls. It's repeating this error/crashing in Kore2 - the same as it started to do right after the Xa update - that included the MS2012 VC++ package. I'm going to check SONAR X2a and see if it's having issues now, too. There hasn't been any updates to this computer in a few weeks and has been fairly stable.

Hi Scott; After cleaning up Win 7, that is to say making sure that all MS VC++ (2005, 2008, 2010 and 2012) were re-installed and working, I reloaded the "a" update and to date all is well.

    Regards,
    Del

Awesome, Del! I'm really glad to hear it!

I might have came across another possible solution - that I should have tried before - cleaning up the temporary files; 28gigs. Ouch.

While reading this article about solving R6025 errors, the author mentioned this step. http://www.ehow.com/how_5009906_fix-runtime-error-r.html

"Click on the Windows "Start" button, type "cleanmgr" into the Search field and press "Enter." Click on "Files from all users" if it asks and select "Continue." Choose the drive where the program was installed, check the boxes next to "Temporary Internet Files," "Temporary Files," "Recycle Bin," "Downloaded Program Files" and "Setup Log Files." Click "OK" and select "Delete Files.""
KORE2 isn't reporting the R6025 error, yet. I still have to test X2a.

    BTW: I'm using a Windows 7 64bit/i7920/24g

Thanks for the info Scott, I ran x2 for a few hours yesterday and had no issues but it's nice to have something else to try if it comes back.
