Importing AIF - Always Copies to a new WAV file?

I am importing a bunch of AIF files from a PT project, and no matter how I set the options, X1 always makes a copy of the imported file into the audio directory of the project. It would not be a big deal, but each track is well over a gig, and there 60+ tracks in the project. Not only is this sloooooowww, but it's eating up disk space. Any one have experience with this issue? I've searched the forum, but no luck there. Thanks

In the File/Audio Data section of the Preferences there is an "Always Copy Imported Audio Files". You have that unchecked?

SONAR can only edit wav files.
No matter what file format you import they will always be imported and converted to wavs
