Yeah, it has been there for hours. Wonder where the announcement is? Did just notice the updated Content Club webpage.

stevec no biggy, already got a year pass for it.. doubt I'm the only one.. exclusive content would be better I dunno... I'm sure liking this one. maybe when they start giving out content you already have for a few months you might not be liking it so much... I think it's more irony, they have a big company (roland) yet nothing REALLY exclusive I can't get elsewhere or already don't have. don't offer loops only as wav's.. thats to make pedestrian / lazy man's music . It's a good time for them to put something else there, that you really can't get elsewhere and x-amount of others haven't offered already.

@fog. you seem kinda cranky this week! It's hard to complain about a freebie. No matter what they offer, short having someone create custom content every two months, somebody here is going to already have it. I'm not sure what the percentage of people here who already have groove3 memberships is, but unless it's the overwhelming majority, cakewalk has just given out a very practical and useful freebie. Everyone who owns this product can likely get some benefit. Of course there are the exceptions who somehow know absolutely everything there is to know about Sonar and other things covered on groove3, but I'm guessing those are exceptions. Even when the freebie is useless ( everyone does not use loops) it's still a freebie and will be hit or miss. It sounds like what you are asking for is an unreasonable expectation for a freebie...namely a commercially viable product that is exclusive , overlaps no functionality with cakewalk products or sounds in existence and all for free? I'm sure they get a discount purchasing the group license at groove3 but developers creating custom content, add-ons etc are not in any way cost effective. It is never a wise business model to give a damn about customer complaints about freebies. Nothing they do will ever be enough. What exactly do you want them to give you for free?

I was already a subscriber so it's not a plus for me... ...but it is a big plus for all the Sonar owners who aren't subscribers. Can't say enough good things about the G3 videos. I've learned so much about tools and techniques. For those who have never had the pass before: go for it! You won't regret it. As for Cakewalk making the offering, just reinforces my original and ongoing positive outlook about the company. Tres Magnifique! Regards,

not really cranky.. but I bet the membership isn't low for g3 if you use a lot of things = it's far cheaper to get a year pass...the month pass has been offered at least 2 places else I know of ... music tech and one of the big US shops it would be far better to get something exclusive , perhaps from roland sound wise etc.. that you can't get anywhere else.. (no I'm not talking yet another version of the 808 / 909 kits either) the strings thing is the only freebie that was "nicely" marketed as an exclusive for pre-orders.. and then what happens.. it is available for full orders after. Guess I'll be upgrading with a UK shop next time. the loopmaster stuff, well sorry.. I could have got most of that as sneaky peaks etc.. so not really exclusive either. I'm sure I have some of it on a computer music mag dvd, no doubt you think the companies who are in co-op aren't getting business from cakewalk indirectly or directly .e.g. the soundpacks bundled with sonar itself. so it's a free advert also even if they are getting billed for it, that's factored into what we are paying, as I don't assume cake is a charity .. and the groove3 thing is targeted marketing , so if it gets them more yearly passes= good for them. I guess it stems back from when i did a website.. every year we'd offer something that was never released and it was only available to that time... not repeated. offering loops as wav.. is like me giving you a birthday "cake".. in the form of some eggs / flour / icing and saying get on with it..lol (it isn't 1991 and I don't own an akai 950 )

So I ask again, what exactly would you have them give out for free? Shouldn't be too hard to think of something. Maybe I just see freebies differently. Was your website for a multi-million dollar company with thousands of unique paying customers around the world? Otherwise it's comparing apples to oranges. Asking me what i think as far as how Cakewalk deals with third party companies is neither here nor there because people tend to make up the answer that fits into what they already think. I can readily say I have no idea. They could have a great deal with groove3 or loopmasters or it could be an absolutely stupid deal. Matters not. You claim\ we are getting billed for the freebies but I have no clue what you base that on. Have you seen some kind of accounting form with lines saying "let's give them loop samplers and bill it to them?" I know I haven't. In fact, it makes more sense that the freebies are coming at little to no cost to them so that they can afford to offer them free. Factoring in something with limited appeal and raising the price is a very convoluted process. Anyway, I digress. Can you at least name one practical thing you want from them for free that would satisfy you?

Okay... let's bring this back to earth. So I'm not familiar with this website or how the subscription works. I'm assuming I have to create an account and then I can watch these streaming for a month. So... no downloads, right? ALL their videos are available for streaming, right? For example I was poking around and saw the Mixing 101 http://www.groove3.com/str/Mix-School-101.html... So can I watch all of those vids? It looks like there are a bunch more I'd check out too. Mostly actual recording concepts. I've got enough material about Sonar. What I'll probably do is wait until the last couple days to redeem it (currently working through the X2 manual) then just spend every darned day for a month watching as much as I can and take notes along the way. So if that's how this works... then yeah, this is FINALLY a super useful freebie for me. I'd get more mileage out of that month than others though because I can literally spend all day every day watching the things. Perhaps my head will finally explode. ;-)

I'm not a subscriber, and there are a bunch of vids that I'll watch, so this is pretty good.

beep , you can watch them.. free for a month.. a year pass , allows you to acess them to view.. but if you wanna download = they charge jeff it's worth subbing IF you have enough of what they due vid's for.. xmas they has a good deal on , so I renewed then to my existing one dub, your right... it's like comparing apples / oranges ..the folks who I did the site for had FAR less resources than roland does, or cakewalk.. the smart thing for them would be to include something from their sound libs or synths (bet they have shedloads from even the s760 etc) that could be re-used..... it's a bit like me buying u-he diva.. the demo swayed me enough.

fog, not trying to give you a hard time, just looking for something that can be presented to them for ideas. Nothing is going to please everyone. I'm sure those who don't use softsytnths or samples would have no use for your suggestion and the staff view mafia will likely hate any freebie that does not include an a-z list of every request they want, but it never hurts to try. I think old s760 stuff would be awesome.

Thanks, Fog. I'm excited to watch them but I must resist the temptation until I get through the manual... at least the important bits. Cheers.

I think old s760 stuff would be awesome. it just annoys me there is a shedload of roland stuff, that I doubt roland would mind being tapped into not being utilised, that is gathering dust.. that *WOULD* be exclusive to the majority.. the staff thing doesn't overly bother me, as I use cubase as well *BUT* I can understand it being important to others.. and well I some of this content as carrot dangling , or an intro to another company.. which is fair enough. Just when you already have it .. you think err? and cake are just tapping into something I already know to be good. it would work in their favour also... bringing something roland to the table that no other DAW has access to. I'm more one for actions than the usual marketing speak.. and from such actions you get people talking, including the rivals. no big budget needed , word of mouth is the best advert
