Beware of Ransomware - Nasty Internet Threat!

Ransomware; is on the rise for 2013, it's a very nasty virus that locks-down your computer (hijacks it) and demands the user pays a sum of money. Meanwhile; it steals passwords and other private information; has complete access to your computer.

Don't pay the ransom, it's a con; they won't unlock your computer. The threats about revealing misdemeanors to the police is also a con. If you think you PC is infected with ransomware?, first thing; immediately disconnect the cable from the PC and report this to your bank(s) and such and use another computer to change all your passwords.

More about this threat; Click Here

To remove this pest; I guess a complete fresh reinstall of the O/S.

Another reason why I don't use my DAW for the Internet; only exception is; activation of software 'directly' to the source; no diverting to other sites and once done; completely disconnect the cable. For transfers of content; I thoroughly scan all files using updated; anti-virus, malwarebytes and spybot before proceeding with the transfer. I've been sticking by these measures for many years and my DAW has never ever been infected. Ummm yet {paranoid sigh}!

The punks that create stuff like that should be taken outside, hung upside-down by their ankles and fed Ex-Lax until they drown.

It's a great way to start your own small business from the comfort of your post-Soviet apartment in a former Eastern block nation.  The mafia type organizations over there actually sell the software to interested individuals who then set up web sites and lure people in.  The average computer user, to whom a PC is an appliance on par with their microwave oven, is likely to give in and offer up a credit card number to fix the issue.  Or, G*d help them, their debit card number with security code, thus leading to a wiped out bank account.  They just play the odds and deal in large numbers of potential victims and make a fair living.  And if they are "found out" practically nothing ever happens to them.  What a deal.
