How to lock two mono tracks to each other

Hi all

I have Sonar LE 8.5.
I record classical guitar. Normally I just use a single stereo track, but as I want to be able to edit the two channels different I will record two separate mono tracks (panned hard L and R).

My problem is, that if I want to cut, move or some how edit the two tracks they don't work as "one". I remember, that there's some way of joining them so that when I for example slide track 1 track 2 will follow etc.
As it is now, if I make a little movement with one track the two signals will not play or work syncronically anymore.

Where is the "magic" button to do this?

Kind regards

Create a stereo track from the two mono tracks using the "Bounce to Track" facility in the Edit menu.

    Hi kev999

Thanks a lot but it's not working - or it's not what I'm looking for.

The "bounce to tracks" makes my two mono tracks become one stereo track. If I wanted this I would just begin with this.

What I want is two mono tracks panned L/R where I can vary the panning, add separate reverbs EQ's etc to each track without having the tracks to move separately when i draw one of them with the cursor og cut  away parts of them.

Say there's a part of the beginning af the tracks with noice. I want to cut this and move both tracks backwards. I am forced to cut both separately and move them separately - unless I'm extremely lucky they will not end up in the same place and they will be played back out of time (delayed) because they are no longer exactly on top of each other.
I hope you understand what I mean.

I have found the function once, but I can't find it again.

    Regards

Select each clip by clicking on them while holding down the Ctrl key. Then drag one and the other(s) will also move by the same amount.

    Hi Greg

Thanks a lot, it works. I really appreciate your reply.
Can't I make the selection permanent? I think I was able to do this once?
And what about cut, copy and paste?

    Kind regards

Say there's a part of the beginning af the tracks with noice. I want to cut this and move both tracks backwards. I am forced to cut both separately and move them separately - unless I'm extremely lucky they will not end up in the same place and they will be played back out of time (delayed) because they are no longer exactly on top of each other.

If you want to make lots of identical edits to two mono tracks, then I recommend combining them together into one stereo track as I suggested earlier.  Then after all the editing is complete you can separate them back to two mono tracks.  This method guarantees that the edits will be identical for both tracks.

On the other hand, if you only intend to make one or two simple edits, then selecting the relevant clips (like Greg said) is probably the best method.

A selection is not necessarily permanent, as the selection may automatically change after performing an operation.  For example, if you select a clip and apply "Split", it splits the clip at the current now-time position but leaves only the left part selected.

The way Copy & Paste works in Sonar is no different to the way it works in other Windows programs.
