Upgrade Price?
Hi all, The latest enticement from Cakewalk to upgrade to X2 producer is very tempting, with the 'Content Club' being an extra inducement! As a 'studio' user I am giving it serious consideration. However, the e-mail states that the upgrade is $199 (instead of $299) which at the current exchange rate with the UK is £123.30p. So, I have to say I am confused when I look in my account for my upgrade price, and find it is quoting me £159, which is equivalent to $256.63? There is no extra cost to Cakewalk as this is for the download with no box, disc or whatever. So why the disparity in price? Gary

Some people, including myself, have suggested that it's VAT, ut I now believe that it is not the case. Another forum member was charged VAT when the keyboard (IIRC) that he had ordered from Cake was stopped on arrival in UK. So goodness knows why we here in England pay a premium. It is often better to try a retailer in UK if possible.

I will try a local retailer but I'm not sure the discount being offered will be matched! Gary

The 159 GBP includes VAT. We set the price at the beginning of the upgrade cycle, so it can fluctuate in either direction through the course of the upgrade cycle. There's still a ton of value right now with SONAR X2 Producer, plus the Content Club is a $35 value.

Thanks Andrew - that makes sense! I am a relative beginner with Sonar but not with other DAW's; although my experience is about 20 years old! Things have moved on a bit since my forays with Cubase on an Ataris ST, to say the least, so I have a steep learning curve ahead of me. However, I want to ensure that as my experience develops I have everything I need rather than having to 'upgrade' in the future. I learnt that lesson the hard way before. I am slowly building my Home studio and I just want to be sure it's money well spent. Gary

Hi Glyn, Many thanks for your advice. I have tried logging onto the etcetera website but it is very slow and when it does load there doesn't seem to be much there! Maybe I'm missing something?
