timidi bitflipper Question for you all: what plugin effect or instrument still excites/inspires you as much today as it did when you first bought it? (Stuff you bought last week doesn't qualify.) My Roland JV-1080. (and My martin) Wow...you beat me to the punch. I bought an XP-50 (JV1080 sound engine), then an XP-80, and then a JV2080...or course everything all loaded up with expansions. I personally think it rivals some of the new stuff, although I haven't really tried Roland's newest in my studio. I add my Superior drummer (first bought EZD), as my Roland drums were getting a bit dated (but not the other stuff imo). My Roland ready strat and Roland GR-33 and my various Boss GT units have REALLY changed my live setup from the old days of one great guitar, a monster amp, one cable (maybe a wah wah and the extra associated cable). If I'd only had my XP-80, JV2080 and my Boss GT-100 back in the early 70's.... I wouldn't have bought a van!! ;-)

Mesh bluzdog A recent example is the guitar midi software that looks pretty awesome. After the litmus test I decided to skip it and save the funds to buy a You Rock guitar in the future. I was also going to get the YRG (ver.2), but for a $150 more, the Fishman Tripple Play looks to be a better product. Check out the Youtube videos on it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nKhlmJ4EeI That looks pretty cool!!! Thanks. Rocky

I find that I could live without most of my third party plugs at this point. Slate Digital Trigger still saves my ass on a regular basis and if you reach for my FG-X you'll pull back a bloody stub. That could change once I get on board in the guitar midi controller game. Rocky

Every microphone I have ever purchased. It's been a stepping stone process, as each one has been better than the last... but because I choose carefully, each example of yesterdays news is still a darn good mic and because I have purchased them slowly, over a span of 30 years, I have learned what each does really well and so I am always excited to select just the right mic for the occasion. best regards, mike

Well, for an actual instrument it would definitely be my Parker Nitefly Mojo. Of all of the myriad guitars I currently or have owned it just fits me like a glove. For digital instuments it's a tie: Lounge Lizard and B4. I got the actual sounds of those things I used to have to lug around...only in software. I still love em every time I fire em up.

My Blueberry Acoustic Guitar , Zematis Electric Guitar, Viger Bass Guitar and Korg Karma Synth (only had that a few months so I hope I'm allowed to include this as it is just a spectacular synth!) Yea, move to hardware if you want to stop buying. Or go broke. I thought I'd found a Portico II to match mine so I could do stereo. fortunately, it was an RND channel strip but not the Portico II. I thought the price was rediculously low. @
https://soundcloud.com/a-pleasure-dome http://www.bnoir-film.com/ there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. 24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

bitflipper Question for you all: what plugin effect or instrument still excites/inspires you as much today as it did when you first bought it? Alchemy for sure ... not so much for the sound it makes but for the utterly brilliant design that went into it and the capabilities on offer. Also, best synth doc ever. It does not excite me as much as when I first acquired it, it excites me much more, having taken the time to learn it in some detail. DIVA for the sound. Harmor would almost surely be in this list if I understood it. But it gets my vote as worst synth doc ever. I've tried to read it a dozen times, saying "this time I'm going to really focus and figure it out". Can't be done. But the instrument itself is madly inspired. LuSH-101 is too new to be in this list, but ask me a year from now and I'd probably include it. Incredible sound combined with a you-don't-even-need-to-read-the-manual intuitive interface. Could use some improvements to the mod. matrix, but enhancements in this area reportly are forthcoming. If I had more time to learn it, Synthmaster would probably be on this list. Its capabilities are extensive and its design is very, very well thought out. Plus, there are several wonderful collections of third party presets available by Nori Ubukata that pay tribute to past masters like Carlos, Tomita, et al. Oh yeah, if I can ever find the time to learn it, u-he's Zebra would certainly be on this list.

Virtual: Mtron Pro because I fell in love with the ghostly sound of the Mellotron a long time ago. Physical: A 35 year old Peavey Pacer amp with a mismatched driver transistor that distorts and produces a hyper sensitive feedback effect. Always sounds like it's about to blow up. And a 1960's vintage Selmer Mark VI Baritone saxophone that I foolishly sold and could never afford to buy back.
Sonar Platinum x64 Windows 10 x64 Couple of guitars, a bass, bunch of plugins, not enough time....

Yeah.. I'm really not buying any software this year! Except!!!!! The Sonalksis Studio Bundle, which includes all of their current plugs, seem to be permanently lowered to $550. I am going to remember that for next xmas.. If that # gets combined with a sale.. I'm in. I still haven't bought any sonalksis yet.. and I know my mixes will go ----> Rock STAR with that bundle.
too many lasers... Sonar = audio editing ninja of a music software!

I too decided that I really had enough synths............. Really, more than I'll ever bother to really learn beyond tweaking presets.... then I saw Omnisphere with 20% off............well, it would have been rude not to, roight ? Now I definitely have enough synths............... well, maybe.
