"Out of memory" when trying to import mp3 file in project - but not with Wav??
Hello I have an issue that is really annoying when I try to import audiofiles in a project. I want to import a whole song to use as a reference track. There is no problem to do so with WAV files. However, there is a problem to import mp3 files into Sonar. I got the error "Out of memory". It says that this should be possible, as mp3 is in the list of file formats under audio import. This is very annoying since I want to compare with purchased tracks from i. e. Beatport or iTunes and they often are in the Mp3 format. I use Sonar X2 Producer, which I run on Windows 8 x64, 16 GB Ram, CPU Intel i7 3.5 Ghz, SSD. i. e. a so an up to date DAW. I can't really see how lack of memory should be a problem, especially since the Wav files are much larger than the mp3s. Any ideas regarding this? Thanks!

There is non-music data in the mp3 file that SONAR cannot handle. Quite a few threads about this in the forum. The fix is to convert the files to wav before importing.

iTunes are not Mp3's. This. ^^^ There are a number of tools out there for removing DRM from iTunes files, but many are of unknown or downright shady provenance and I wouldn't trust them. The standard method is to use iTunes to burn a CD and then rip the converted files from the CD. The process of copying the MP3s to the CD requires stripping the extra crap that Apple adds to the file. Utilities exist that do this without actually having to burn a CD-R, but I cannot recommend one because the ones I've looked at all seem to come from mysterious overseas software developers who have a propensity for embedding spyware and adware into their "free" utilities. Personally, I avoid the whole mess by simply keeping iTunes out of my life altogether. You can buy the same music from other sources such as Amazon, at the same price with the same convenience but without the iTunes DRM metadata.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

I can't seem to get them to understand that an Amazon Mp3 can be easily converted to iTunes - but not so much the other way. Brian
