Is X2a friendly with A-Pro controller? (sometimes)

Went to record first keyboards since my X2a update and I can't get my A=Pro 500 to work properly. All it does is send out midi, no go for the actual controller functions. Tried both onboard configurations 0 and 19 and resetting the control surface in X2a.

Sonar has always been flakey with remembering my hardware, but the above steps usually solve the problem. Not this time, any ideas?

I'm not sure I understand. Are you trying to use it as a CS as well as a MIDI keyboard? It should do just fine doing both as long as its setup right in Sonar.

It works fine for triggering soft synths, but I can't get the transport or other controls to communicate with Sonar. The usual remedies have failed me.

Under Preferences Control Surface did you select the A Pro surface?

I use the forerunner a PCR. Similar to above that uses two ports that can be configured how you want them. Are you sure the controller data is being transmitted on the port you think it is and/or do you have that port selectedin Sonar?

I assume it will also use Control maps like the PCR. Changing map will have an effect depending on how the map is set up. I often switch to my Sonic Cell map and then wonder why Sonar isn't responding and my synth sounds and volume are all over the place.

I've tried all the suggestions and still no go. I guess it's possible that it's simply broken. Time to send a note to the tech support folks.

UPDATE: After trying a dozen different times without success, it simply started to work. No idea, it's sort of a great example of how X2a works on my computer. I have a project and it refuses to remember the input snap settings. Every time I open it the quantize value is different.

Thanks for the help, it's appreciated.

    Hi Ampfixer,

I just upgraded to X2a as well and sure enough, the settings for my A-300 PRO were lost.  I used the same settings JPS used above, but there were some additional things I needed to do:-

    1. On the Midi Devices in the Preferences menu I select A-PRO MIDI IN as well.
    2. On Driver Settings it had "lost" my UA-25EX (my audio interface) as Playback Timing Master, so no sound until I fixed this
    3. I pressed the Control/Surface Properties button on the toolbar, then pressed ENABLE.  Only at this point did the A-PRO display Z3TA+ 1 which was the synth I had open at the time.
I tested the rotaries and they worked.  I tested the transport buttons and they worked too.

I always thought it was counter intuitive that you have to enter A-PRO 2 as the In Port for the Controller Surfaces (this has caught lots of people out), but JPS has clearly shown this in his screenshots so if you've double-checked against all of his settings and checked my additional points you should be fine.

I have found it tricky to get the A-PRO set up in the past but this time it worked OK, I guess I've learned from past experience.  The only thing I'm not sure about is whether it's necessary to have the B3 button pressed on the A-PRO (this is supposed to be SYNTH).  I mistakenly had the B4 button pressed but everything still worked.

    Good luck,

    Simon
