"Stydy SONAR X2 online" but is it X2 or X1?

On Cakewalk page: "As Cakewalk's educational partner, Berkleemusic provides musicians, engineers, and producers with the ability to study SONAR X2 online with Berklee's renowned faculty from anywhere in the world." (http://www.cakewalk.com/page.aspx/Learn-SONAR-Online-with-Berklee)

Clicking "Learn more" opens a page saying "Learn the Berklee approach to music production techniques using SONAR X1 Producer." (https://www.berkleemusic.com/welcome/berklee-sonar?pid=4084)

    .

    I saw the same thing.

As a Berklee alumnus, I'm a bit skeptical about spending anywhere between $1,400 and $4,200 (not including various additional fees) on music certifications and degrees. After all, what do you get when you're done? How do you compete for work with the millions of other programmers and recordists in the world?

OTOH, if the teachers and materials are good, and you don't necessarily view this as an investment in a career, as much as an investment in your own potential hobby skills, etc., then it could be a wonderful learning opportunity.

Again, that is - IF the materials and teachers are good.

Of course, if you ARE ambitious, a degree or certification can potentially help you toward a career, but don't fool yourself in thinking you'll get work just because you have some degree or certification from Berklee.

Obviously, the same can be said of any degree or certification from any school in any field or business. There are plenty of physics doctors, bankers and lawyers with Ivy League degrees looking for work, as well.

I had both good teachers and not very good ones at Berklee. Do your research first before spending money.

As always, CAVEAT EMPTOR and YMMV.

They are teaching SONAR X2. I just updated the link. The class is taught by Stephen Maclean who is a SONAR expert and has been teaching this class for years.

I am not a Berklee alumni but am very aware of their impact and reputation regarding music. (Baylor Bear here!) I am certain it is a wonderful course. However, I personally feel it is significantly overpriced for an online course and can't fathom anyone spending this kind of money to learn information that is readily available far cheaper and in many instances, free.
