Click and Drag has caused Sonar X2 Crash...
I have had a couple of Sonar X2a crashes so far. I have to admit Sonar X2 has been VERY good to me so far. It is quite rock solid. I have been falling in love with Sonar for a while now. Getting great sound and great workflow. I think this DAW has so much going for it. I really want to help make it better. So, I have opted to say "yes" for reporting the crashes. After the crash has happened (a couple of times so far), the Sonar panel soon pops up to intercept the crash and make a report to send off the cakewalk. I have allowed it to send the report. One thing that bothers me is that I have not been able to exactly trace what I did to make the crash, other than I know it was a drag and drop operation. If I find the exact operation I have done to crash it, I will report it here. I want to know if anyone else has had some random crashes with Sonar X2 regarding some dragging and dropping functions. I hope Cakewalk has received my crash report and it is useful enough for them to find out what caused it and possible fix it in the next update.

That's a great attitude vega7 . . . pick your favourite DAW program and support it. Myself, I've only had very occasional crashing in Sonar X2, and when I have reported crashes in the past with other Sonar versions, I can't say I've ever heard back from them directly. I thinks it's just helpful for the developers to get feedback about what's causing troubles so they can address it in future updates. You should list your system Specs and soundcard, plugins used, and more details about what you are dragging and dropping, there's lot's of help here on the forum, from very experienced users that you can get help from, if you can clarify what's happening on your system.
Cakewalk by Bandlab, Cubase, RME Babyface Pro, Intel i7 3770K @3.5Ghz, Asus P8Z77-VPro/Thunderbolt, 32GB DDR3 RAM, GeForce GTX 660 Ti, 250 GB OS SSD, 2TB HDD samples, Win 10 Pro 64 bit, backed up by Macrium Reflect, Novation Impulse 61 Midi Key Controller, Tannoy Active Near Field Monitors, Guitars by Vantage, Gibson, Yamaki and Ovation.

Drag and drop makes Sonar X1 on my old laptop crash like crazy. I can barely insert plugins too, and drag copying a plugin is 90% certain crash. X2a on my new PC has zero issues whatsoever. It's amazing. I wish I could understand what causes it..all I know is my custom PC with RME Multiface II and Sonar is the most stable setup I've ever experienced...I wish I knew why so I could help others.

Are you using X2a? If you're not, you may want to update because I got several crashes before the update using the initial release of X2. There was a quickfix that was available that stopped the crashing, but since the X2a update, I've not experienced any crashes with drag and drop at all. If you're using X2a and getting these crashes, you may want to call tech support and see if they can straighten you out. Just to help you possibly hone in on the issue...my particular crashes came from dragging and dropping into Pro Channel or when I'd be dragging the effects in PC to different spots within PC. Like say I had an eq first in line, I might want it last...dragging it last would make me crash. Or inserting other plugs into the "effects chain" in PC, dragging them around would make me crash. But like I say, the quickfix they had that was released until the REAL X2a patch came out, fixed all of that for me and now that X2a is here, I've still never seen this again. I hope you can sort this out, best of luck. -Danny

I hope Cakewalk has received my crash report and it is useful enough for them to find out what caused it and possible fix it in the next update. Doubtful since crashes are more than likely caused by your hardware or hardware drivers and not by a coding error in Sonar.

Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions so far. I have not been able to reproduce it yet. The reason mostly being because I believe I accidentally dragged and dropped something. I will keep an eye out for future crashes. I will try reproducing it if I find it too. I have been using the X2a update. The crashes have happened in that update. Luckily, my project was ok next time I opened it. I really do not think it has to do with anything with my hardware. More specifically my audio hardware. But, I doubt it is my computer as well. The crash only affects sonar. There is no windows OS error message. The crash is specifically generated/intercepted by sonar error reporting. No windows error ever appears(like other apps I have seen). Plus, the crash specifically happens with click and drag of Sonar components. I know the clicking and dragging was not with any third-party plugins. Whatever happened, I am quite confident it has to do with Sonar GUI. I was not using any audio recording/playback. It is a matter of time until I find it again. It has happened approximately twice. The only reason why I am a little concerned is that it is a total crash of Sonar and I would lose anything I did not save up to that point, so it can potentially be a big deal. SO far, it has not affected me. I will report back when it happens again and hopefully I can find out what exactly I did. My system: HP Envy 17 (i720 CPU, 8GB RAM, Radeon HD 5800, etc...), NI Komplete Audio 6 interface(ASIO), Windows 8(64bit), Sonar X2a(64bit).
