VST WTH: No MIDI control for Vol, Pan, Velocity

So weird problem...working in X2, after the X2a patch, I encountered this: When I create a "Simple Instrument" track with a synth every works fine. I can play notes, and the VST instrument responds to MIDI volume, MIDI Pan, and MIDI velocity data. This is the case for all my VSTs. However, if I create the same synth (Omnisphere, Alchemy et al) in a multi-channel track, I can play notes and hear them just fine. However, I can't change volume, pan, or velocity data...not with the sliders, faders, nor with curves. In summary: note data always works, but some instruments in a multi-channel setup are gimped. So I'm a bit stymied. It worked before I patched X2a, but not after. Also frustrating and weird is that OLD tracks that I created before the X2a patch with multi-channel tracks work just fine (and DO respond to MIDI volume/velocity/pan). I vaguely remember having a problem like this before, but can't for the life of me remember what the issue was (in fact, I may have dreamed it it's so vague). I contacted support, but so far, no joy. Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?

I may not have enough detail, but I would guess that you are setting up multiple sounds on multiple MIDI channels, but your controllers are only sending on one channel.

I'll double check, but my default is output as omni (or input to Cakewalk as omni - however one states that). It's partly a problem with everything running so smoothly for so long that I'm out of practice for trouble-shooting/tweaking. Thanks for the idea though...I'll double-check, but I'm pretty sure I have that set right.

Well, safe to say it's not MIDI. The keyboard input is definitely OMNI. And it's doubtful, in this case, that it's Omnisphere since Alchemy and a couple of other VSTi's do the same thing. I'm frankly stymied. Keyboard output it Omni. Input on the track is Omni. When in a "simple track" config, the channel receives and sends volume, pan and velocity data. If in a multi-channel (or just a non-simple setup because I don't want it that way), it doesn't work...but in the multi-channel setup the pitch bend, mod wheel, and keyboard/pedal data all work fine. Gah. Maddening.
