USB Audio Interfaces?

I bought a new laptop to run Music Creator 6 on, and wanted to get an audio interface that would allow me to record directly to MC6. Initial thought was something like the PreSonus 8-input devices, which were able to be daisy-chained. Was going to get two of them, and record the band "live" and utilize the full compliment of drum mics. Well, that idea was short lived when I realized it was Firewire, and Intel-based systems no longer come with Firewire. It's a laptop, so expansion card is out of the question. So then I started looking at USB interfaces. Looked at the Tascam US1800/2000 devices. 8-inputs, but not able to be daisy-chained. Is it possible to connect 2 of these devices to separate USB ports and have Cakewalk recognize them? Also, why no development on the USB 3.0 front from any manufacturer? Thanks.

    Welcome...

Understand that MC6 will only support 2 input channels at a time.   Most interfaces in the lower price range are perfect fits for that since they only have 2 channels. M-Audio, Focusrite, Presonus...all are in that category.

I would recommend getting the X1 or X2 version of the software which does support multiple simultaneous live inputs such as for an entire band.

I am not familiar with interfaces that would support that and are chain-able.  Some of the guys here run studios for profit so they would be a better source for that info.... not me.

That does not preclude you from using a large capacity mixer and sending the stereo output of the board to the 2 channel interface and into MC6. You simply need to do set up and sound check and have musicians that are playing with that awareness.

My laptop, a Dell, came with a firewire port on it and I bought a firewire interface to use. If yours did not... look at this.  I think you may be able to obtain a firewire expansion card like this>>>> http://www.bhphotovideo.c...G&Q=&A=details   note: I just chose this one at random..... they are much less expensive at other places... google search for them.

firewire can tend to be a bit choosy about the chips that are running it....I've heard that the TI chipset is the best to use. On both my lappy and my custom studio DAW, I use firewire and have no clue if I am using TI chips.... but my interface works flawlessly on either computer.

Right. Two inputs only in MC.
I'm not sure if you can use 2 interfaces at once when using the better ASIO drivers, since ASIO only allows one device at a time.
But if you get good performance and latency when using the WDM driver, you can use more than 1 simultaneous device.
Don't despair that your MC 6 purchase is a waste of money; by having it, you get a discount on the upgrade price for X1 or other Cakewalk DAWs (when purchased from Cakewalk).

It depends on soundcard and it's drivers as to whether or not you can use two or more in ASIO mode.  if they are designed to be daisychained, then the drivers will be written to allow those in ASIO mode.

for daisy chaining soundcards using USB you probably should look into stuff which has ADAT capability, or some of the hybrids will allow daisychaining as well, such as the MOTU hybrids (I have 2 MOTU ultralites but I run them in firewire parallel).

You can connect two Roland Octa-Capture's together for 16 mic pre's. You might also want to wait and see what comes out at NAMM next week.
