Input quantize bug?

Hello users... This thread is related to Sonar-X1 Studio & Producer.

I've been experiencing issues with Input quantization- while real-time midi loop recording a drum pattern for example. The issue is that some of the recorded notes fail to play while loop recording, until I stop the recorded sequence then hit play again. The missing notes are usually in the middle of the sequence but can vary. The issue happens equally in X1 Producer & Studio.

Interestingly...the problem doesn't happen in Music creator 6 or previous versions of Sonar & creator. If I reduce the Q strength from 100% to maybe 92-96% things improve greatly. If I use the midi quantization plug-in- it records as It should. I'm convinced this is a bug with input Q & had seen a similar complaint by another user. I contacted support which hasn't been very fruitful. They made some basic suggestions that didn't work. I contacted support only after trying numerous solutions that failed to work.

I see in the forums that a lot of people step record & perhaps this is the reason it may not be any reports about this issue. Does anyone do real time midi recording in loop mode with the input quantization enabled to a 16th note? Can anyone verify or test that their input Q feature isn't buggy? I'm not convinced that the support guy has even tried the feature to see if there's an issue with the software itself.

Thanks in advance to anyone that's willing to test.

I have tried it but was never able to get it to work for me satisfactorily, however, I wasn't sure if it was my fault or not.

one thing I would suggest you try - tho I understand if it works in MC, it should work in X1 as well... would be to adjust the MIDI PLAYBACK buffers.  the default is 250 and I did have to increase mine to 500 to make it stop dropping notes.

Thanks Beagle for taking the time to test. I tried everything imaginable with changing buffers, tried recommended settings from support and even tried different drivers and audio interfaces which didn't change anything. Using the midi quantize plug-in however, doesn't have this issue.

Changing the buffer values don't work for me, but changing the Q-strength for the input-Q seems to work. I think it's an actual bug with the software. I surmise a lot of users don't record midi in this fashion & probably prefer step sequencing  or record midi the same as audio which could be the reason no one is reporting an issue. Think I'll stick with MC5 as far as CW products go. It's pretty solid for me by comparison.

It may be.  seems odd they would "break" that function between versions, but I'm sure stranger things have happened.

I personally record MIDI real time without quantizing and then if I need to fix timing I'll do it manually.  that's the hard way, I know, but that's the way I'm most comfortable with.

Who knew?  So... if I understand correctly..... MC6 can fix my timing issues (within reason) on the incoming midi notes....?

This, I will have to try one of these days.... Thanks...

BTW.... yeah, I know it may not work exactly like I need it to...that will require practice on the piano keyboard....
