I read a post yesterday that stated that if you listen you'll figure out that rock mixes don't really have any featured bass playing.

I thought to myself... good thing John Entwistle isn't alive... he might make someone eat those words.

*Sigh*  This reminded me that I had a ticket to see him (along with those "other" guys he played with), but he passed away the day before and they had to refund everyone.  It would have been my first time seeing the Who.  Not meant to be I guess...

I saw the real Who in Anaheim (at the Stadium) 1970 or 1971. They came out and Roger said "We're gonna do a song from Tommy now" and they proceeded to do the whole album. Awesome.

I read a post yesterday that stated that if you listen you'll figure out that rock mixes don't really have any featured bass playing.

Were they talking about the bass playing (a sign that they aren't actually listening, or have very limited exposure to rock) or the mix?

One interesting Ox story concerns the "Who's Last" live album. Mr. Entwistle initially did the mix himself and mixed it with the bass "too loud" (in someone's opinion). So it was remixed by someone else and issued with the bass almost inaudible.

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

    A cumulative chortle.  I knew I'd get a reaction, my Alembic-playing friend.

I felt the same when I saw the Logic 8 install disc on my wife's desk the first time I visited her.

And the same again last night when I logged into her laptop and saw that she had Sibelius and Audacity installed.

The audio geek inside just melted. ;)

Ya. EB-3 was traded up to the Rick 4001. The Rick for the *cough* Alembic.
