Don't feed the trolls Please
When you see a spam post please don't reply to it. By replying all you do is keep it up top and actually help the spammer. CW will take care of it in due time. The thread will be removed and the spammer banned. However if you think what you post on such a thread is gone forever you would be mistaken. Somewhere it will be archived. So don't post there and don't say anything you wouldn't want your children to read if you do.

Lol I was just going to try a search for the original "Ignore The Spammer" thread. This probably was the easiest way to go because we all know how well the 'Search' function on these here forums works. I'm somewhat surprised that you don't have that one book marked seeing as how it had to be re-posted what seemed like every 3rd day or so. Oh well. I shall now do my part in pushing our latest spam-hole down the page a little bit further. Mike

There is a REPORT ABUSE tab at the bottom of every individual post. Certainly take the time (20 seconds) to click it and select high priority and type the word "SPAMMER" in the comments, and send it to the moderators. By doing that, they do get it and read about it faster than if they are simply browsing the forums. I have found they are very appreciative of that sort of heads up and act fairly quickly to delete the thread. The only thing I have posted in a spammer's thread in the past few years have been the following words... "REPORTED to moderators"

I agree Herb. Cake does shut them down ASAP and I have gotten a few but usually our fellow forumites are rather quick and I get the old 'thread has been reported' message. There are a few good logical spammers that understand that the offices are closed from Friday night till Monday morning. So they spam us up on weekends knowing it'll be up all weekend. I do rather enjoy being the one that gets to be the 'reporter' and it's been a while. And since I'm waiting on a bass player to get done working, I've decided that I'm going to follow you around till he gets here and report all your post's as spam. You don't mind, do you? Thanks Herb, you're the best. Mike

yeah Mike... there is a low tolerance for spammers round here. most often even on weekends you can tell at a glance that the thread with an unrecognized name and ZERO replies is probably a spammer so I generally don't even go to look. And often the title is a dead giveaway

Not any more Fog. They have an anti bot login now. I think its fine to comment on the spamming here in this thread just lets not get into where its coming from or the ethnicity of the perpetrators. As for me I am not as upset about it as I used to be. Yet it is not something I like. In a way I feel a little sorry for those engaged this sort of thing. Its not something they can be proud of. I do not feel sorry for those that contract people to do this sort of thing though. Those are the ones that need to find a another way to make a living. This forum surprises me with its willingness to do the right thing. I am very proud to be a member here. Thank you all.

Bump..... Again, for those that just have to respond to the spammers. You do know that they never check back to see if they got any responses right? They hit and run so to speak. So complaining to them about it in their thread is useless. Well actually it keeps the spam on top of all other posts which the spammers like. So PLEASE don't post anything (except 'REPORTED' if you reported the thread to the mods) in the spam thread and it will fall away quickly. Thanks for your support. Mike

Some forums use a system that you cannot post immediately. There is also a system where you cannot start a new thread until you have replied to a few. You'll never see spam on the Cubase forum, you have to register your software to join, You also won't get help ha ha...

I was under the impression that you had to have a Sonar license to post on the forums. Is this incorrect?

The most common form of online forum/comment spam these days seems to be "My roommate makes $758 a week just working on the computer! No I didn't believe it either, until I went here: skinmealive.com" Whomever is involved in this particular scam must post literally millions of these comments a day. I see them on virtually every blog or newspaper comments.

I am not angry with those that actually do that just a little peeved by it. Those that set it up and get big bucks for it are the ones I have a real problem with. Then there are those that contract for it and they should be ashamed. There should be some sort of penalty for contracting for it. If they are resellers the producer should take action against the ones engaging in this behavior. But then that wont happen.

chefmike8888 You do know that they never check back to see if they got any responses right? They hit and run so to speak. I guess most hit and run but I have actually seen another MO develop recently - tag team spammers. Post an innocent looking but probably irrelevant question, to which the other member replies with the spam. There is one brewing in the Software forum at this very moment. I don't know who they think they are fooling.

I don't understand what is so hard about blocking these posts. Surely the administrator of this forum must have the means to block posts that have a certain phrase in them? If so, all they'd have to do is pick a unique phrase from that post, something that is extremely unlikely to be posted in an innocent non-spam context, and the spam scum would be frantically trying to work out exactly which 3 words of their massive spam post were causing the block.. If I were them, I'd just give up.
