Envelopes - can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em
I need envelopes! My life depends on them! Problem is, they don't work in X2! By don't work, I mean: Selecting everything from now till end in track view, and sliding selected area over by a few measures, the envelopes don't slide with the select. Yes, in options I have "select track envelopes with clips". What a gyp! My work around, which is a huge impediment to my work flow and creativity is to make sure I'm done with all structural aspect of my piece (i.e. I'm done moving sections around, inserting new sections, etc..) before I start using envelopes. Thanks for providing a forum for me to vent on.

I am in X1, but I think this would be the same, when you select what to slide, go and see if in EVENT list the envelopes are selected also. If not, this is the problem, they will not slide with other events.. Sorry if I am obvious, just trying to help.. Ted

I'm not sure if this is what you are referring to but... Open the track's automation lane. With the Smart Tool selected left click and drag in the bottom three quarters of the lane to range select the automation you want to move then click and drag one of the nodes left/right. To keep the automation level set to where it is hold Shift while dragging.

Mike, are you talking about a simple instrument midi track? If that's the case, you have to first split the track (right click and choose "split instrument track"), select the area in the timeline, make sure both tracks are selected, then drag. If it's not a simple instrument track, then I don't know because it works okay with other types of tracks (audio and standard midi tracks).

I tried splitting the instrument track, and it still doesn't work. I can't slide the envelopes.

Works fine here. When you split the track, you should have the envelope on the audio/instrument track by itself, and the second track should just have the clip with the midi notes. Drag the timeline to select a range, then click both track numbers in the left track pane while holding the control key to select both tracks (you'll be able to see the time range highlighted in both tracks). Now drag the track with the midi clip. Both the envelopes and the midi notes move together.

Thanks StepD -- still that doesn't work for me. Turns out cut & paste does work, however -- even with simple instrument tracks. I just need to make sure of a couple things though: 1) select, cut, and paste include envelopes. I can do this by using cut/paste special the first time, then cut & paste assume those options thereafter. 2) When I paste, I'm on the first track. (I'm doing cut & paste with all the tracks.) With me, slide simply does not work with envelopes, period!

Weird. Could be version thing I guess. I'm using X2a. Or they gave you a different program than they gave me. ;-)
