Music Creator 6 and Virtual Instruments

Can someone please give me a step by step instruction on how to insert virtual instruments into my project using Music Creator 6? I cannot find any good tutorials on this. I have had the product nearly a month and have yet been able to use the synths. I am a complete newbie to the whole computerized music software. Thanks.

Virtual instruments are no different from soft synths. IIRC they all are listed under "Soft Synths" in Plugin Manager.

You could have made this quicker by telling what plugin you're trying to use and what went wrong. Also, your system specs might be usefull. Put them in your signature.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

    Welcome to the forum.
That's one of the first things covered in the Help files. Under Tutorials, Using Soft Synths. It's Tutorial 8 in my program.
Click Insert at the top, Soft Synths>select a synth.
If you're starting from scratch, leave the Create MIDI Source Track box checked and MC will insert a MIDI track with the output of the track already set to the synth, and the soft synth track.
Record MIDI notes in the MIDI track with your keyboard or by entering notes in the Staff view or Piano Roll view (PRV) with your mouse.
If you already have a MIDI track with notes in it, uncheck the Create MIDI Source Track box and set the output of your MIDI track to the synth.

Here's a little video I did just 2 days ago. The subject isn't inserting synths, but I do insert a synth in the video. I don't know if you have to be a Photobucket member to view it, but it's free to sign up.

Are you looking for video tutorials?
I started using MC before there was so much help available, so I just learned by reading.
Here is a link to some MC 6 videos that may help you.
Hope it works; I haven't watched them.

Would you mind saying which part of Gregs post #3 is unclear to you, so we could clarify? Basicly the whole thing is done with 3-4 mouse clicks as Greg explains. I'm 100% sure that if you read the help files, the step by step instructions for using soft synths are there. It's no use starting to copy paste the help files here.

Greg, thanks for the link to the videos but they do not help. I am trying to create my own sounds using the Cakewalk sound center but cannot get it to work. As I said, I am completely new to the whole computerized music making software. I am probably not explaining myself correctly or understanding your explanation Greg because I do not know the language yet. I am just going to read through the help files and see if I can figure this out myself. I thought someone more experienced with this thing could quickly tell me how to get the sounds from the sound center into my project. I never expected anyone to copy and past the help files here. Thanks again Greg for your feedback. You have been very polite.

This sentence suggests that you have, in fact, inserted Sound Center into your project. Is that correct?
If so, are you not getting sound from it?
Provide any details on what you have done already.
Please don't take offense to the questions being asked. This is a very basic function, and we are not quite clear on where you are getting stuck.

Hello Robert, I click insert soft synth and then Sound Center. The Sound Center window pops up with all the instrument types, subtypes, & programs. Let's say I want to get an acoustic guitar sound from Sound Center into my project, I am not understanding how to do that. I know this may be basic to a lot of people on here, but as I said I am completely new to all of this. Oh, and it is not the questions that I find offensive. Thank you for questions and assistance.

Since you're new to computer recording, it's possible that you're not completely clear about sound center. If you're already versed on what I'm about to say, then simply disregard. In order to use any of the sounds in sound center... you have to double-click on the sound you want to use & that sound will be loaded. You can then play the sound like you would a real keyboard, that's why it's called a virtual instrument.

Do you have a midi keyboard connected or do you plan to manually enter notes in the piano-roll in order to create a musical performance? What are you using to play the sounds?

...and to add to Kine321s post: The virtual keyboard some VSTi's have in the user interface can not be used for recording. It's for auditioning the sounds. For actual recording you either use a MIDI-keyboard, staff view or Piano Roll View.

Yeah, I know how to audition the sounds. I need know how to get the sounds I hear into the project. I do not have a keyboard. I read somewhere I could use the mouse to enter the notes but when I use Piano Roll View nothing happens. How do I do that?

    ah! that's the issue!

click on the instrument track (or MIDI track depending on if you set up the softsynth as a "simple instrument track" or separate MIDI/output tracks).  just click on the track to highlight it.
then go to VIEWS>PIANO ROLL VIEW (or ALT-3 on the computer keyboard)

now you can enter notes using the mouse on that Piano Roll View for that track/softsynth.

Be sure to watch ALL the videos in that link Greg gave you....start to finish.

I seem to recall that in them they do touch on the PRV and Staff somewhere.... ( not 100% sure )

I don't use PRV but I do know that several folks do and what I do recall is there is a learning curve associated with being able to do all that you want to do..... knowing where the functions are, and how they work.... same deal in Staff editing.

Also, you can search YOU TUBE for more videos on PRV and cakewalk products. Quite a few people have produced some instructional videos on cake stuff.

I figured it out. Maybe basic for some but you have to know to enlarge PRV and where to touch exactly and to highlight the pencil tool to get the notes in there. Thanks to all those who provided feedback though.

Hi, I am starting to use music creator6. I have limited software experience with soft synths and music creator. I am using the sound center and am able to get sounds (very good quality here!)just fine. I can get a this sound attached to a midi channel and I can record fine with the keyboard on that channel. My problem is with multi-track midi, I can only get a single sound attached to all the channels. How do I attach a single instrument to a single channel and a different instrument to a different channel. The tutorial I watched conveniently only used a single channel. I have tried several combinations and cannot seem to get this to open up with multi midi tracks with different instruments attached to each channel. Can anyone help here? Thank you very kindly, Clifford

IIRC Sound Center is not multitimbral, so you need to use a different instance of it for each instrument sound.

    hey Cliff....

The Cakewalk sound center (CSC) has sampled sounds, which tend to much better quality than midi patches.  So the sounds should sound  good.

CSC does one sound per instance of the synth.  You need to insert another instance on a new track and change the instrument sample for that second one.

To avoid triggering them all, you should go to the input of the ones you are NOT actively using and shut the input off. Midi channel NONE.. or something like that.  Nothing like working on a flute part and hearing the tuba play the same notes 2 octaves below.

And use a different MIDI channel for each track going to a synth.

GuitarHacker and 57 Greg, Thanks very much for this info on setting up multiple sound center music instruments. I have it working now and this is great. Love the sound and quality of sound center instruments. I actually had your ideas emerge shortly after I wrote the post because my Magix Music Maker 2013 program is using the same approach of a different synth for each instrument. You both got me on the right course, thank you very much. I see now that the critical issue besides multiple synth set up is to set the output channel to the appropriate synth that has the appropriate instrument. Took me a while to get to that point also but I am off and running now, best regards, Clifford
