Gross Generalisations

Reading the sunday paper-an article on the "outbreak of cloying niceness"on social media regarding "like" and "liking" and Tweeting etc which went on to say
"it`s evident in web forums that pride themselves on maintaining a code of respectful conduct, yet whose participants make Macchiavellian power plays to marginalise further those who exist on the outer"

the article was a bit tongue in cheek and is a gross generalisation but forum behaviour is pretty universal and we should try to avoid being lumped in with the rest!

in the words of Byron Bache:

"the bottom half of the internet is like the bottom half of the sea-both should be traversed in a pressurised ,impenetrable vehicle"

apologies to the person(s) i will offend.
hope the rest of you have a giggle,or at least a smirk.
no snark intended!

speaking of snarks-got my new Snark head tuner today-fits really well on the tip of the head and you dont need your glasses to see it!!
cheers

at last -a reply-phew-i was about to post this but but may as well post anyway:
    I resent Social Media
there-i`ve said it. i resent the fact that i opted out of facebook and subsequently missed my great granddaughters 2nd birthday
i resent the constant bonging of my wife`s iphone/ipad in our private time
i resent the fact that we are not in an actual coffeehouse with eye contact and the physicality of a "real" discussion and the recognition and role of elders in society
i resent the fact that unless i embrace facebook/skype etc i will be left out of the loop
i resent the fact that with Wiki and Ask.com there are no valid opinions anymore-only facts
i resent the fact that people don`t get off their arses and visit when a text or email is considered an acceptable alternative

but then again,i`ve been a member of this forum for 7 years and it has been invaluable to me and have made some lasting contacts i just get disappointed when freds turn ugly and we forget we have a common interest,
but the cool change has arrived and i`m off to water the lettuce and strawberries
    cheers

    Hi Tony,

Hope you stay cool enough down there.

I thought Florida got hot in the sunny season... I'll appreciate our 100* days a bit differently when next season comes around.

     Take care.

     best regards,
    mike

    good morning all
    good morning mike
nice and cool and crisp this morning with only a hint of sunburn on the fruit and veg.
we missed the worst of the heat -the Big Day Out in Sydney with the Chilli Peppers headlining was 46 C in the shade.

mike:i drove through Florida and it was wet and sticky like Queensland rainforest but may have been the wrong season-our heat is more like Arizona or Texas.

Bit disappointed i didn`t get any bites with my social media rant-i thought it was provocative enough.
just goes to show it`s the poster that counts not the post.
But,i`m off into town to L`Espresso for coffee and a meeting to discuss song selection and running order with Real People in a Real Coffeehouse with my notebook and pencil.
    so there.
    cheers

    Hi Tony,

I think it's safe to say that all of Florida is wet and sticky.

    :-)

I popped in here expecting to see 144 generalizations, but I think most are apparently missing...

    hi craig,
did you mean where are all the other members with their generalisations or was the title not provactive enough?

i thought about that when i checked the forum this morning as the way i am going i will be a bronze member for life.
My posts go down like a fart in a phone box,i think i`m suffering from Premature Posting Syndrome and  i`m wondering if i should raise my profile a bit and toss off a couple of hundred favourite song/album/artist/film/puppyphoto posts, get to silver status and just move on from there?

it probably doesn`t help that i`m close to bed and most of you are just getting up and unless you know aussies well the whole deadpan/ironic humour thing can be confusing.
    who knows?
i will think of something special to post tomorrow to see if i can get past my 5 reply personal best.

    cheers

I was referring to that fact that 144 is considered a "gross."
(So would 169 be considered a "Baker's gross?")

I knew someone who had a Baker's Cyst. It was gross.
